Hi I'm looking to buy a new guitar. I mostly play metal and therefore looking for the typical 'shredder' type of guitar. As of now I'm leaning towards the Ibanez Rg 1550. I'm looking to spend about $1800-2000.

Anybody got any experience with such guitars or some tips? I would appreciate it.

RG1550 is a sweet guitar, not sure about the pickups though.

With your budget you can get an RG3550MZ or RG3570MZ, which have better pups, and are close to a RG4570Z which is one of the sweetest axes I've ever seen.

I've got a RG2570MZ myself and I'm pleased with it.

As Fran says, the RG4570Z is a piece of candy both for the eye and your hands! With that budget, I would also consider looking at the Ibanez J - Custom...or even Caparison guitars which are very high end stuff smile.gif

Or maybe a EBMM John Petrucci cool.gif ?

There are a whole lot of shredder guitars to choose from with that much money! Do you have any specific form or colour you prefer?
Here is a list of possible guitars:

-Ibanez RG Prestige series
-Caparison Dellinger or Tat
-ESP Horizon FR
-Jackson Soloist Sl-1 or Sl-2
-Ernie Ball Music Man Jp-6 or Axis

These are all superstrats with Floyd Rose style tremolos and 24 frets - shredding machines!

- Gibson Les Paul Custom Arctic White with EMG 81/85

I just had to make the note, the Axis dont have 24 frets smile.gif ....which kind of annoys me

RG3550MZ Galaxy black looks like a great guitar for you, and fits in your budget nicely.

just to note, I got a quote from Ran guitars for a custom built seven string Cruiser model (Very banez style) with the following specs:

Mahogany body, maple/mahogany laminate neck, (Nech thru construction) ebony board, hardtail goto hardware, Dimarzio Crunch lab/liquifire pups, locking tuners, 25.5 scale, 24 frets, jumbo fretwire, hand applied oil finish to neck and body.

Bear in mind this is a 7 string, custom built to your specs and entirely unique, cost? 2050 euro's!

Obviously you can spend a lot more and the options are limitless, of course some people buy the name and not the guitar.

Just a thought! biggrin.gif
