Overdrive is nice to push the limits during leave and it gives some extra sustain. You probably should get a wah, if you want. I good delay (analog is what I like). Chorus is good as well.

Overdrive would be a bit of a waste IMO, maybe as a boost it would be ok but I would still say its a waste.

for me I would look at..

1. Wah wah
2. Volume pedal (Ernie ball) they give you so many options
3. Tuner (Boss)

After that some sort of delay.

I know it sounds like a really boring setup but as a good gigging setup with the channel changer on the amp it would be great.

KISS = Keep. It. Simple. Stupid. smile.gif

I think it is still a good investment even for a rhythm player. Tie in some delay and chorus with the wah and you go some funk

Theoretically you *might* need those pedals for Rock and blues:

-Overdrive
-Delay
-Reverb
-Wah
-Volume
-Tuner
-Noisegate
-Chorus
...

The list goes on and on because it is up to the player what Pedals they need and don't need. Some of the greatest Legends of Music don't use any effects at all!!!

You obviously don't know which effects you like and which you won't ever need so it's no use to buy effects that others think you will need!
With the boss Me70 you will have almost any effect there is and expression pedal which can be used as a wah, whammy or volume pedal. You can use the Me70 to experiment and find the effects you like and need and the ones you don't really need. Sure, individual Pedals sound better but it's not that the ME70 sounds bad - it just doesn't sound as good as a pedal built for one effect.

If you have played a couple of years and/or have experimented with a MultiFX you will find the effects that you like and then you can start buying individual pedals. If you start with some random pedals now without further experience (like I did) you will end up with some effects that you like and some that you don't like and which you won't use often... I had a whammy, an Equalizer, a digital Delay and several distortions and I never used and wasted a lot of money that way!

Individual pedals if you know what you want, MultiFX if you still have to figure out what you want!

Also if you take another look at the Peavey Valveking, it has a built in Reverb!!! A Delay would be the way to go...

Tuner: Boss Tu-2/Tu-3 or the Korg Pitchblack
Delay: MXR Carbon Copy (Analogue) or Boss DD-7 (Digital)
Overdrive (used as boost): Maxon OD808, MXR GT OD, Digitech Bad Monkey, Boss SD-1, Ibanez Tubescreamer

There is a footswitch for the Peavey (I don't know if it comes with the amp or if you have to buy it seperately) which you will need to switch the channels while playing. The footswitch has two buttons, one for channel switching and one for effect switching...

I think it is possible to set the effect switching button can be used to either switch the volume boost or the reverb - ask a Valveking owner to be sure...

Just reading up on it..

from what I understand the valveking has a 2 channels but also has a volume boost on each.

that should get rid of the need for a boost pedal/extra overdrive or distortion pedal.

A £50-£70 pedal isn't going to give as good sound as the valves in your amp.

It also has reverb on the amp, I don't think it switchable on the pedal but unless you want to get reverb inthe middle of a song you should beable to cope with it. Holy Grail is one of the best stomp box reverbs IMO

The boss tuner is a must for live and is really tough.

I bought my volume on an off chance and then found it was always a must (until I left it at a gig!!!)

delay can be pretty cool but chorus/phase/tremelo I don't find get used that often.

If I was you I'd get your amp play with it for a while and see what you need from there, you may find that the amp can do everything saving your self £250...

That's what I said, every player thinks diffrently about what pedals are neccessary.

Here you have the best example: Stratman79 thinks a Volume pedal is a must for his style of playing; I on the other hand think it is completely useless (to me). I can do a volume swell with my volume knob on the guitar and I can mute the guitar by stepping on the tuner!!

I'd say a tuner and a delay are a must. Those two are used a lot and your amp doesn't provide them.

You can get distortion & reverb from your amp. You might need (or not) an extra distortion/OD stomp, but you better check how the amp sounds first.

Once you have your distortion/delay/tuner the rest is a matter of preference, you might find you need a wah, or a chorus, or a flanger, or a compressor, or a... the list goes on forever. So just go step by step, get the basics, and after that time will tell smile.gif

Pretty much have already been said on this topic, but personally I would have used the money to get a better amp instead... for Blues & Rock there is Fender Blues Deluxe as well as Fender Hotrod, Marshall also have some models as well as Blackheart. A good guitar & good amp is most crucial, the effects are just the cream of the cake. But if I was suppose to choose just two, it would have been a TS and a delay. I never found a practical use for a tuner, since it takes longer time to watch the display than tune the string by ear during a gig. I do use it for initial tuning, though... But this can be done with a tuning fork as well.

The natural valve overdrive in your amp will be harmonically rich and sound great, its also footwsitchable between channel 1 and 2 and has a solo boost in the second channel, to start with this will be all the overdrive you need, however, if you are playing covers you may need more diverse overdrives, SRV always used tube amps but still opted for tubescreamers too, it gives you another dimension, I have a 3 channel mesa and still use overdrives for different songs.
Nobody can advise you on pedals better than yourself, any pedal choices you make should be after careful consideration mate, play with the amp in a band situation first and the choices will present themselves through necessity, buy a pedal for a musical reason, not just for the sake of having a pedal. Your amp is 6L based and will be very clean with lots of headroom I am guessing, this will be an ideal platform for pedals.
In my opinion you only need a good quality stage tuner to start with and take it from there, your amp has a reverb to add some depth so you're ready to rock.
check out "gearmanndude" on YT for pedal demos mate, they will give you an idea of what can be achieved with a tube amp and decent guitar, then make the pedal fit your music, not the other way round!

This is also a good site for pedals www.dirtbox.net

for all the reasons everybody has told you in this and all the other threads! theres nothing wrong with them per-se, but you will be ultimately limited in what it can achieve, its a beginners amp with beginners features.
