Being Caught Out On Stage

Once I had to start this song in a concert there was dancing and different things happening I was in the band and had to start this song. I sort of fell of the ball so to speak and when I realised I was up, I stood up and my strap fell off my shoulder, I reached back to to grab my strap and as I did My pick went flying over my shoulder. Ha it was so funny looking back I had to play with my fingers it ended ok but I remember in that split second the pick flying and thinking I just threw my pick away. I couldn't believe i did it. Back in the 80's I succeeded to mess up he cables round one of my feet, and when moving round the scene the cables got too short - causing the Head and the top box in the stack goes like "BOOOOOM!!!", down on the floor. My strap gave up and bass went straight to the wooden floor, it was so loud and audience laughed... Bass survived with a minor crack in the finish... We finished the soundcheck and had some minutes before starting the gig. I took my guitar and for some reason unplugged the cable out off my pedal board and wrapped it up. Went with the guitar and the cable backstage to play a little more before the gig started (don't know what that cable did in my hand). Then we had to go back on stage. I stepped on the tuner pedal to switch it into bypass so the rock'n'roll could flood the house. Bang in the strings. Nothing. Looked down, and realized that i forgot the cable. Mar 5 2010, 07:03 AM	GMC:er Posts: 120 Joined: 13-March 07 From: Wilmington, NC	QUOTE (zoom @ Mar 3 2010, 06:01 AM) Yeah I've got to get a strap lock set up I've never even looked into it does it cost much? yeah man, strap locks are a necessity.....especially if you want to pull some ZZ Top guitar slingin tricks. i've experimented with a few different ones and i like the dunlop dual-design ones. they're solid, hold really well (never had them come undone) and not as bulky as the schaller ones (which are my second choice). as far as picks go Ivan's right, finding a way to keep a few easily accessible is a great idea. i usually keep a few wedged in the lip in the front of my amp. i also loosen my pick guard a little and wedge one between the pickguard and the body. sometimes i think just covering your bases keeps you from messing up....by the way, very funny story. oh, and i guess i should add a story too. one of my bands a few years ago was having it's cd release party and at one point while we were playing i had my back to crowd......not realizing that our singer was swinging the mic above his head. apparently everyone else noticed except for me and him, and the whole crowd watched as it kept getting closer and closer to my head until it finally made contact. there was a loud "THWAP!!!" over the PA and i fell against my amp. i tried to start playing again and was so out of it at first i ended up playing a completely different song. it took a few seconds to regain my bearings and by the time we were done with the song some of the staff from the venue were already on the side of the stage with a towel full of ice. my head was pretty busted up, but it gives me a good war story to tell the grand kids when i'm older. ie- "back in grandpas rock n roll days..." another time we were playing and i was at the front edge of the stage and some drunk guy from the crowd grabbed me from around my knees and started to pull me in to the crowd. so i'm sort of floating upright through the crowd still playing....which was pretty cool until i realized my cable was getting shorter. i had wrapped the cable through the handle of my amp a few times so that it wouldn't get pulled out as easily...which worked, but now it was pulling my amp off of my cabinet. so i had to quickly unplug my amp. eventually the guy carried me back to the stage and i could plug back in and keep playing. the way i look at it is if some crazy or funny doesn't happen at a rock show then it wasn't a good show. as my friend adam used to say "it's all about having a good time". If anyone hasn't been there is an awsome indian with big glass windows at that end of town... Anyways we get back, getting on stage and the singer was saying oooo my stomach doesn't feel to good... I drop my lead as I was about to plug in, he bends over to pick it up and suddenly stops... you could tell by the look in his eye that he was very nearly caught out on stage!!!
