I want a new guitar for shredding - my Variax is awesome and plays well, has amazing versatility but there are a couple of things it doesn't do well - Using the floating trem really backs off the sustain so I keep it locked, and metal style chugging just doesn't work because of the Piezo pickups - now both of the above aren't core to the type of playing I do, but I very much want to learn both techniques, so I need a shred-machine to practice on that won't cost the earth but plays well.
I'm looking for a guitar that: - Plays super fast - Has a lot of sustain - Has a locking tremelo - Has Humbuckers Sounds like an Ibanez right? But I want something a little cheaper ... I've heard good things about Schecter, and the Hellraiser Damien FR seems to fit the bill - anyone got one of these? Are they good? -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

And thanks Uncreator as well - now I need to convince my wife that 3 guitars in 3 months isn't excessive ... I don't like the apperance of the Damien so I'd go for a C-1 Hellraiser if I wanted a shred guitar. Looks like irs twice the price - what do you get for that? I see a thru neck as the only real difference unless I missed something - is that worth the extra? -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

I can say out my own experience a thru neck plays really really well, but if its worth 300 bucks i dunno. -------------------- The coolest new community: Lockerz Wanna join Lockerz? Wifes are there to stand by your side and support you in hard times, and persuading yourself that you need a new guitar is hard times, right? And if you keep this guitar buying pace up for a while she will give up, shake her head and mumble something you can't hear. After that you can buy as much gear you like. That's in theory though. After buying two Schecters within 2 months I thought I had it all set up, but the other day I told her we were going to buy a POD XT somehow she found the willpower to object to that :/ I really don't understand what went wrong. *Warning: This advice might lead to an unwanted divorce if handled improperly. More seriously, bought my son a Schecter Revenger, active pickups. I think it's in the same price segment as Damien. For the money that is a great guitar and Metal lives inside that guitar. I'm sure the Damien won't let you down. Heh, I like your line of reasoning This post has been edited by Andrew Cockburn: Apr 4 2007, 06:28 PM -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

Well they don't look like crap for a start. Heh, that's a good enough reason to start with! BTW the C-1 I notice has a "Set Neck" not a thru neck - some places say that a set neck is worse than a well done bolt on, but I can;t imagine Schecter would put a crpaiier neck on a guitar twice the price. As ever, I'll have to go and check them out. Keith: I'll look at the JS100 as well - same price bracket as a C-1, gets mostly good reviews, so lets see! Thanks for the input guys. -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile
