here's my best efforts at Gabriel's lesson titled: Satriani Style Rock.....

Volume might be a bit low so adjust speakers accordingly. Constructive feedback welcome.

The riff part was ok. I am not sure about some notes in the solo. Some of them sounded out of tune. The guitar sound is a bit messy in this video so it was hard to tell what exactly happened but nice try anyway.

Emir, I am playing the exact notes in the tabs that go with the lesson. I realize that some of the bends may be out of tune because I'm a little flat or sharp. I will work on that. Having said that, My strings are getting old and I need to change them. Could that have anything to do with any other notes sounding out of tune. According to my electronic tuner, the strings were tuned to standard pitch. Thanks for the feedback.

Yes that can also be the reason. Old strings don't usually work all over the neck. And if you don't bend precisely on top of that then the result could be even worse. I change strings once in 2 weeks and if I am touring I change them every day or two to avoild any risk when playing live.

I'm not an instructor, but I'll still give you a feedback. Your guitar does sound out of tune in the solo part with the bands, but you've already discussed that. I think you should turn the volume of your guitar up or the backing track down, it's hard to tell during the riff part if it's your guitar one can hear or the backing track.

Like Emir said, guitar was out of tune. Other than that, the solo was good, but I advise you rehearse your bending/vibrato, these techniques really need improvement.

Ivan, I honestly think I was trying to compensate my bending because my ear was picking up on the tuning problems of my guitar. I was doomed even before I started recording. Thanks for the constructive feedback. I will take it to heart and maybe re-do the recording with new strings and additional practice. I played it for my wife before recording this and even she was picking up on the tuning issues. It was driving me crazy because the tuner said I was in standard pitch. I couldn't figure it out because I was playing the exact notes in the tab. Then I realized that it had been a long time since my last string change. As I played the solo, I was unsure about my bends because I was trying to compensate for the tuning issues I already knew existed. I think I would have done better with the bends if I wasn't so nervous about the tuning issues I was picking up on when I was getting ready to record. But this is not to say that my bending doesn't need a lot of work....but usually I'm more in tune with my bends than on this video. But I promise to continue trying to improve my bends and vibrato. Thanks again!
