Does anyone have any recommendations for theory resources? Aside from our lovely lessons from Mr. Andrew himself
Specifically I'd like something that is theory for guitar. I'm really bored at work and I need something productive to do with my time. I thought this was a good idea, haha. The first thing I thought of was: http://www.amazon.com/Music-Theory-Dummies...r/dp/0764578383 I also found this! http://www.amazon.com/Music-Theory-Workboo...e/dp/0964863243 Thoughts, suggestions, comments? Thanks! This post has been edited by relaxenjoy: Apr 8 2010, 04:29 PM -------------------- |

Here is a cool little trainer to help with fretboard knowledge... http://www.musictheory.net/trainers/html/id81_en.html That is a great site Skenny. If you have an iPhone or iPod touch you can get an app called "Music Drills".....this one allows you to learn all the chromatic intervals on the fingerboard.....on the music staff as well if that is your thing. There is also and app called "Musicopolis" that will allow you to learn all the diatonic chords of each scale. Both these apps will give you excercises you can do anywhere to keep your theory and fingerboard knowledge up to snuff. Great stuff. I didn't KNOW any of this stuff until just about 6 months ago and I've been playing for 20 years. It's never too late to learn theory and it will help your improvising and composing IMMENSELY......\m/\m/ |

Berklee book is a nice one, and there are few more too. Complete Idiot's Guide is also nice if you are just starting with theory. I recommend to read from at least two resources - puts things in a better perspective

Thanks everyone for your replies, there's a lot of good stuff in here!
Among the resources listed here, I also picked this up: http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/Music-...tar+Vol.+1%2527 It hasn't arrived yet, but I am very anxiously awaiting it. I am very excited to start working through this and see the improvements in my playing and knowledge! -------------------- |
