In 3 hours I will be giving a public performance for the first time in 11 years.
I'm playing the piece I posted in my last thread for a charity concert, so it's not a big event, but to me it feels like I'm playing at Wembley.
It doesn't end there either. In two weeks I shall be playing for a masterclass, and that's a one hour recital. Eek!
Even though I can play the pieces in my sleep, I keep having nightmares that I'll forget all the notes half way through. It's natural; I've been through all this before, yet it feels like the first time again.
I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Hopefully it will be a positive experience.

Thank you for all the support everyone.
I'm back now and I believe it went well. The venue had a nice atmosphere, which helped. Technically I know I didn't play as well as I could have done; the accuracy of the cadenzas was nowhere near as good as I can perform them but at least I didn't forget anything, I didn't hesitate over any of it, and I gave an emotive enough performance to render someone to tears (I'm guessing/hoping in the good way). More importantly though, everyone else enjoyed it, which is what counts. I wasn't performing for myself - it was for other people, and as long as they enjoyed what I did then it's mission accomplished.
I think that once you practice enough, you can't practice to make your performance go any better - that part's just down to experience and the subsequent confidence.
Well, onwards for the next mission..
Thanks again for all the good wishes

Good to hear that everything went well! smile.gif) We can never perform perfectly but its good when we try our best. When performing in front of audience it really doesen't matter what we think of our performance - they'll be the judges of that! smile.gif
