I played a MArshall dsl jcm 2000 (that i had in mind to buy ) few days ago .. I think it has that nice marshall sound .. but if i want some nice metal distortion it can´t get there,Well it can do iron maiden and stuff like that but i feel that it can´t get to the hi gain stuff .. now I´m thinkin of Randall 150 G3 this one seems to be able to get that nice hi gain metal distortion but is it versatille ?? .. or maybe A Peavy Valveking + MARSHALL 2x12 (1936) w/ small fottswitch for 550e or line 6 spider valve HD 100 w/ the line 6 matching cab (w/ celestion v 30 ) and and fbv express all for 1000 euro ?? Wich do you think would be better and more versatil ??

BTW: sorry for the off topic but is a Squire Vintage Modified Jazz Bass good to start learning ??
and would an Sm 58 (for vocals ) be able to mic an amp ??? (cause i found some new ones for 68 euros ) ..

I Own a JCM2000 And I Have to say when you krank it, it can reach iron Maiden.. But For some more heavier you should get a Pedal..
I got along with the amp a Jackhammer to solve that problem for that far i need that much distortion..

Another thing is you should consider changing the speaker, because it sounds weak compared to what the amp is actually producing,
So you should swap it,

This is all i can tell you..

Ooh I Hate Line 6 Spiders, I'd Rather jump off a roof that playing on that.. But thats just me tongue.gif

Iron Maiden use Marshall amps with much less gain than the DSL2000!
Sure it's not a Modern High Gain Amp but it can handle anything related to 80s Metal with ease if you now how to set it up...

Randall sounds thin and rough and it can pretty much ONLY do metal...

The Line 6 is just the signal of a SpiderIII amp send through a tube pre and poweramp, still sounds like a modeling amp

Try the Laney, might be an option for sure.
The Bugera (actually a brand by the low quality company Behringer) is a fake of the peavey 6505 which is a legendary Metal amp (I switched to a Peavey 6505 head recently)

The Bugera sounds almost exactly like a Peavey but the quality is not the best and they tend to break down fast. It makes no sense to buy one since Peavey released a 550 Euro combo version of the 6505...

The GH is the drive section of the VH100R, which is the amp I have. It's super versatile, awesome sounding, and you get the best leads ever smile.gif Problem with the GH50L is that because it's a one channel amp, you can not switch to clean with the stomp of a foot. Laneys also have a very Laney sound, so you have to like that sound smile.gif

You can, but you will have to go over to the amp and turn the drive knob smile.gif
But it does have a footswitchabe gain-boost

I played not too much ago with a band that the guitarist had that Peavey Valveking, going through a Line 6 X3. And man, it sounded wild!! Maybe you should try it

- Bugera 6260
- LANEY GH50L

We've decided to stay away from Bugera wink.gif
Thomann don't even carry them any longer due to, as they claim themselves, too many warranty issues.
They also drasticly increased the price, with more than 30% so I don't even concider a Bugera a price bargain, cheap to compencate for the things it lack.

If I remember well Zakk tested one and a button came off. Sensible Jones tested one and wasn't happy with the sound, good enough but too wek where it counts. You can't measure good sound in amount of distortion appearantly, which I belive the ones he tested had plenty wink.gif

With the Laney you'll get the same issue as with the Marshall. You'd need more for the metal sounds. But it's heavy crunch heaven.

You have switcable gain, footswitchable.
And you should learn how to adjust your sound with the volume knob of the guitar, not jumping up and down on a foot switch changing between channels when you want to go from clean to distorted. It's not ideal. If you work with the volume knob you'll notice how your sound will fit through the entire song.

And you always have the Tony Iommi GH model head if you want more gain. smile.gif
