I Insulted Our Bass Player, and ordered this bass |

Hi everybody,
now we all know bass players are rather sensitive characters. When I was telling the bass player in our band that I record so much stuff at home by now and it is annoying to program the bass and therefore I'd get a real one, he just said: "So you think you can play the bass?" And I was like: "How hard can it be??" Our other bandmates were laughing on the floor! Anyway, I just ordered a cheap Harley Benton bass ( http://www.thomann.de/de/harley_benton_hbp120bk_ebass.htm ) because I realised that I want to record my own music and I got new ideas nearly every day. What do you think, is this bass suitable for the first bass steps and to record some rock pieces? By the way, I will try to record it through my guitar V-amp 3, this one has a few bass setups as well. I'll present you the results very soon. I don't know the quality of the bass you ordered but it should be fine for first steps. Only thing to look out when getting cheap basses is action as some can be really uncomfortable to play. You choose one with a P pickup, it will give you some nice rock tones!

yeah, that trillian is out of this world,
it depends on what type of music you are doing, if the bass is too prominent you will be able to tell it is a plugin -------------------- Visit my:

Bass can in many cases just be a simpler version of a guitar, if you have a good sense for rhythm (and of course, play bass couple of months or so
 ). I don't see the real difficulty in one playing bass unless you want to be a lead bass player in bass-oriented band, or need to play faster funk or fusion or something like that - then you need a serious bassist who can pull this off. For some rock pieces, and demos you want to create home I think that bass is OK, it will get you covered for a while. Regarding playing bass vs playing guitar as I had quite experience with both - I didn't find either on easier to play. Yes you can play simple stuff on bass like in many classic rock songs and its very straightforward. On the guitar parallel to that would be playing power chords in simple songs - which is really straightforward too. Transition from guitar to bass and vise versa is always easier because of same principles behind them (you know where which notes are and how to get sound out). For any complicated stuff both are hard to play. Bass playing requires different technique/approach and has some unique techniques, and guitar playing has its own approaches and techniques and unique ones too..
Generally if you play one instrument its always easier to get started on the new one because of previous knowledge. Even though I play bass as primary instrument - I have recently managed to play some tunes on a harmonica and piano too, which I couldn't grasp easily before I had years of playing experience on other instrument. -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

I think that its a very good idea to learn how to play different instruments (I'm fooling around with keyboards at the moment). I would love to have a electric drum set as that seems very useful to get into to me. I'm sure that playing different instruments will increase your skills on your primary instrument. I do believe we can only have one primary instrument if we want to be good on it.
