I have been messing around with some new video editing software lately to make better videos and I am just frustrated to hell with it sometimes. Which got me thinking, what do you think is the most frustrating thing about music? And I mean any aspect, Video editing/ recording/ mixing/ practicing/ time it takes or whatever.

I have thought for awhile and for me I think the single most frustrating thing about music is finding people who want to play and create the same things as me. I know a lot of musicians around here, most of the locals down here all know each other but I have never met anyone who wants to take music in the same direction as me, And that well...Pisses me off! laugh.gif

Creating music within a band is all about making compromises when it comes to music!
I can tell you one thing that will happen if you find band members that have the exact same style you have: Your band will sound boring

The great thing about playing in a band is having individual musicians who all have diffrent musical backgrounds. Everybody makes an addition and that's how the bands sound is created...

I never said same style, In fact I would not want that. What I want are musicians who want to create the same kind of music as me and take it in the same direction, A band can't work any other way (Or at least I wouldn't have it any other way). I'm 100% open to diversity and would have to have it or I could not work with said person. I need diversity, But I also need musicians are willing to incorporate everything they know into a cohesive idea. I want a great bass player for metal, But I would also like him to have strengths in blues, jazz, etc. Same with the drummer, I would like good technical skill, but with knowledge of other styles to make good grooves and rhythm sections.

I would want everyone in the band to have strengths in many areas, But nevertheless, if we don't share a common idea of how we want our music to sound, and agree on the direction it should go, It won't last. Thats what I want. People who share similar ideas as my own and would like to develop.

But this is off subject anyway.

I would say promotion, and marketing...

I don't really feel like doing some of that stuff but I understand the big importance of it,

Composing and recording I find a very fulfilling activity, and playing live too!

I would agree on the marketing part. It can be really frustrating. Also booking and management can be a downer...

Booking, promoting... all that stuff

I have no interest in that stuff whatsoever, but if I want success in music it is necessary.

I haven't ever dealt with any marketing or booking, but I imagine its gotta one of the downsides to music, if there is any.

For me, the most frustrating thing is technique.
You can have wonderful ideas, but without good tone and technique you're stuck.

Yeah, everybody think that playing guitar is fun 100% of the time, but it isn't.
There are thing that are boring, and repetitive, but.... Man gotta do what man gotta do! smile.gif
