For some of the theory behind artificial harmonics, you could check my harmonics lesson here ...

I would have to agree like most people say it is more easy to see it done then to explain it. If they are going by fast you can't tell, I have read pretty much everything for artifical harmonics and I still don't get what they are trying to tell me with the thumb and what not. So Kris or who ever could you have a lesson for all the tricks and teach you how to do them? Like Shift Slide, Legato Slide, Bend Release, Artifical Harmonics, etc. I don't mean like you look at them from a distance a zoom in on there hand or what they are doing. I am going to have my friend teach me artifical harmonics or my cousin but it would have been nice to have this site go into more detail than perhaps explinatations. I will try Andrews explination since he does have great theory's and what not. biggrin.gif I don't mean to sound rude or anything it would just be nice.

I was always frustrated when it came to doing pinch harmonics, people kept trying to explain it, not quite making sense. However, I just kept doing what EVERYBODY said to do [i.e. with the picking hand, pick the note with the tip of the pick, with the edge of your thumb very close to the pick, to skim the string right after you hit it with the pick] and now I can pull them off more or less all the time.

Keep practicing the motion, moving about the place where you hit the string, as you have to find the spots that produce the best harmonics. I have a pair of EMG's, and the area where the 'sweet spot' is is immediately above the end part of the neck pickup.

For some reason pinch harmonics came natural to me. I watched Kris's video explaination, and it just happened!! biggrin.gif
