Hi
Not sure if this is the right way to go about things...I'm a newbee!

Genesis, 2nd Home By The Sea

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3qYMTC5aSo...feature=related

at around 4.45, Mike Rutherford starts a little chop up the fret board which lasts for around 17 seconds and although I think I've pretty well managed most of the song, this part has eluded me for months. Could any of you out there offer any assistance.

Much appreciated

Woody

it's kind of hard to understand, it sounds like a funky riff, he certainly uses that technique

Hi Daniel

I know, which makes it even more difficult to learn. I have some software that slows down the piece, but unfortunately it becomes too distorted to hear it clearly. I have tried different recordings and even freeze framed to try and get an idea. Still no luck.

Cheers

Woody

Hey Woody,

I'm very familiar with listening to that song, but not playing it. It sounds like he's doing a little funk riff and bouncing his delay. I may be wrong. The guitar part does not look complicated, but the effect he's using dresses it up. Just a stab.

Cheers!

Well, in that one he's playing major scale riff between BMaj and EMaj and then AMaj and CMaj. You can do this with chord shapes E shape for B, A shape for E, E shape for A, and G shape for C. He may be using slightly different fingerings for the chords, but this is the riff as I hear it... I might be wrong though..

Here's an audio sample...my piezo battery is dying and there is no modeling, but maybe you get the idea.

Hi
Thanks, for your help, much appreciated. The piece I'm looking for, is the chop he does up the fretboard after the piece you submitted. It's probably the same chords, just inverted in different ways.

Cheers
Woody

Yeah, it's the same chords, different order. He's playing them a little different shape too, as he plays an A shape for the CMaj as he's right there, but it's the same chords. There is a detuning effect that occurs at that point that doesn't last long and I haven't heard on that track before however.
