Hey Pedja,

Here is the 1st. Its not perfect and needs a little more practice but hopefully its good for now. It wasn't coming but I just needed to do it today and interestingly I did this in 3rd take. This lesson is really like finger twisters with quite some stretching. You will see that my fingers doesn't look that nice on this one. smile.gif

I am also putting this up on the REC board.

Hi Pedja,

What do you have in mind for my next assignment(s)? I will follow anything you think might help me. Apart from that, I also would love to do some phrasing (how to phrase and learn 100 different possibilities biggrin.gif so I have a bank of phrases while improvising) and I guess that is what defines a good musician. smile.gif Just to note that I love Andy Timmons for his awesome phrasing and expressions so I want to do that route as well. I m learning Gone by him slowly in the meantime. smile.gif

Hi Chandra,

Since you finished 3 out of 4 assignments for July, you have almost 2 weeks to complete the 4th assignment. I recommend transcribing 4 or 8 bars of your favorite musician. It could be Andy T or anybody else. Let me know what you decide.

P.S. If you are new to transcribing do 2 to 4 bars as you might have lots of trouble with rhythm when transcribing!

Hi Pedja,

Okay I will try. I am really bad at ear and I have always taken help from tabs. I will select a song and post it here then..

BTW, will this just be guitars or all drums/bass etc? I can only try guitar solo at this time smile.gif

Thanks,
Chandra

Okay, I think I will try Resolution by Andy Timmons since it sounds simplest and lot of repeats.

Okay forget the first one. After listening to it again and looking at how Andy was playing in the video, I have revised it. I did hear harmonizing pattern but wasn't sure what it was since my guitar seems to be out of tune. smile.gif

Here is one with more meat. I will continue doing the rest of it as it just seems so much fun when you get it. smile.gif

Alright, I will call it a day and no further additions. smile.gif

So, here is what I have after adding a few more bars.

Just check this one. wink.gif

EDIT: Just noticed it was 76K and somehow the score information was just duplicating itself to take that huge space. I have removed it and its back to small size.. weird.

Hi Chandra,

I checked both video and your gp file. 2nd time the melody is played (with double stops, perfect 4ths) you are missing some hammer ons and pull offs (style of Hendrix, SRV, Eric Johnson etc). Besides that everything seems to be in order except invisible bar line rule - we will discuss this in future. This is great what you did so far. As far as I am concerned you completed your work in July but since you got 12 days left please keep transcribing this or pick another piece and work on it !

Thanks Pedja. Okay, I might have missed them. but I really can't judge that well when it comes to chords or multiple notes.

What assignments will I have in August? just wondering...

You welcome Chandra. We will work more on improvising, recording, some transcribing and we have to pick one lesson for REC.

Great. BTW, I did a little composition on Daniel Realpe's collab backing track this morning (if you would like to check..).

I would also like to learn melodic phrasing since I really lack it big time. smile.gif

Cheers!!

Ideas are nice in your composition over that backing track but one thing really bothers me - guitar tuning smile.gif Your whole solo is out of tune slightly (in between quarter and half step) so even when you play just a single note with or without vibrato (especially with vibrato!) it sticks out and it hurts my ears biggrin.gif Always tune up to the actual backing track you are recording with. I use metronomeonline and tune to A440 frequency but when I record with something I always double check original recording wink.gif

ouch! see I just hate to tune guitars.. biggrin.gif This thing really sucks. My Floyd rose is too old I guess, I tune it up and every time it just goes out of tune. I thought these guitars never go out of tune.. sad.gif I don't even realize guitar is out of tune. How can I transcribe well... sad.gif

Well another reason why it could be out of tune is old strings! How often do you change strings?
I will give you assignment from now on to always tune your guitar before you start practicing and playing.

P.S. Your REC recordings did not have tuning problems, this is first time I hear you with this problem smile.gif
