So I am way past due for new strings on my strat. It seems like they don't stay tuned very long any more. I retune after every other song usually now. Is this due to the strings being many months old? Or do I need to have my guitar which is barely a year old inspected?

I guess what I notice when the strings get old, is that they get kind of stretchy like you have to bend them farther to reach the note you're trying to hit. And they are a bit easier to bend too. And then the intonation seems to get effected as well. That's when they get more than about 4 months old which is surely way past due. Then when I put new ones on, the sound gets "tighter" or more precise to me for some reason. Sometimes it's good to wait a long time before changing them just so I can notice how much better and brighter the new strings sound. smile.gif

Edit: spelling fix.

I think it is a factor,

It might have to do with the guitar's octavation,

you should check that too

if there are problems with intonation, then the guitar needs to be inspected. however, i think new fresh set of strings will refresh the sound nicely. on top of it, i suggest that you take a guitar and get it setuped, if it wasn't done before.

I don't let my guitars go very long anymore without a string change

I would recommend changing those strings. You could take the opportunity to take the guitar to the shop and get a professional setup too if you haven't done it before.
