Wasps. And we get a lot of them here from the common German wasp, to paper wasps, hornets and sand wasps.

Normally we ignore them unless they nest on the house and then it's down to me to get rid of them. (For some reason neither my wife nor daughter want to do that particular job.) Anyway on Wednesday night I noticed a couple of nests in a crevice in the front garden wall and when I went to take a closer look I got stung on my knee badly. The stings have flared up in to a form of angioedema so my knee at the moment is bright red, inflamed and swollen. I've just asked my wife if she could go to the local pharmacia and get me some anti-histamine to treat it. Her reply was that she's a bit busy at the moment (she's watching TV) but might pop out and get some this evening...

urrgh yea, I hate the bugs that come out to play when the sun shines!

at the moment where I work (which is in the middle of nowhere surrounded by lots of farmland we are plagued at the moment by these things http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrips

we call them thunderbugs, they are tiny things that you cant really see, but get in your hair, ears etc, awful things!

Wasps are the worst and I have an abnormal fear of them as well. I always have a spray can of killer that shouts 20 feet so I don't even have to get close to them.
Hornets are not as common around here but are even worse. I was once swarmed by a nest of them after unknowingly moving their home while helping my dad move a railroad tie in the back yard. They will get all up in your underwear which freaked me out more than the 10 or so stings I got form them. Weirdos.

Finally got the oral anti-histamine from the pharmacia and that's reduced most of the swelling but the area is still badly inflamed and itchy and the anti-histamine makes me feel sick as well. Now I can't work as I can't trust that I'm hearing audio accurately enough to master anything whilst I'm on these anti-histamines.

Found another nest this morning - wasps have burrowed in to the ground in a flower bed next to the house rolleyes.gif .
