I want to see who of us here are at the most "beginner" stage, or in other words, who has been playing for the least amount of time, be it years, months, weeks, or even just days!

I'm at 16 years, so I'm way out of the running for this! Haha wink.gif

See the counter I made. I thought back to the time, almost 2 years ago, and got as close as possible.

16 years and still feels like a beginner... been looking into theory and techniques since past 1.5 years. I knew basic chords and pentatonic scale (1-2 box) and little bit of major scale before that. Now, I know some arpeggios, modes, AP, little bit of sweeping and tapping. Still long way to go though...

The same as for maharzan applies for me, too! Been bashing chords for 16 years now and started to get serious about a year ago.

Haha I definitely know how that feels! The more that I learn, the more I find how much more there is to learn!

Well this kind of thread is always fun even if my entry isn't all that useful.

I started playing in the late 80's but only played heavily for three (maybe four?) years around 90-93 and then hardly played at all until 2002, played heavily for a few months and kinda stopped again until around may of 2009 when I joined GMC.

Like Bear & Maharzan, I knew some things, and I also knew that I had a lot to learn.

Its going pretty well i would say, though its hard to really know how fast i should/could be progressing. Im trying to get around 1-2 hours of practice each day, and im currently doing your beginner lessons Bear smile.gif

I started on lesson 1 around 2 weeks ago, and now im currently working on lesson 4. Im not quite sure about how much time i should spend on each lesson. I have a feeling i could be going faster forward, doing more lessons each week, but is there any real point in rushing?

Oh and many thanks for the beginner lessons Bear, they are nice to have when your completely new to guitarplaying wink.gif

I'm very glad to hear that you are benefitting from my lessons! Thats great!

I would say that there is no point in rushing through any lesson in order to get to the next one. Take your time with each one until you feel that you can play it the way that it should be played. Lots of my private students will learn the mechanics of something (like what notes go in what order, or how many times to strum each chord), but they miss the "feel" of the song or lesson. I think the best advice would be to work with a lesson until you feel comfortable enough to play it without thinking about it.

Its like the old saying goes, "Don't practice until you get it right....practice until you can't get it wrong"
