Maybe not as groovy as some of your suggestions but the grooviest guitarist who I actually listen to is Jan Cyrka.

Definitely the album 'Spirit'.. it's got interplay between the guitar melody and drums to die for !!

Nile Rodgers (guitar player in Chic).

Along side Bernard Edwards (the bass player) they probably helped define what makes a funk rhythm section.

Yes, Tony is definitely right about Nile Rodgers... probably sessioned on more records than most of us have had hot dinners :-) A very in demand funk player, he played on most of Michael Jackson's hits, among others.

Well, for starters I'd nominate the following for the vote:
Christophe Godin
Jan Zehrfeld (Panzerballett)
Oz Noy
Tomo Fujita
Jeff Kollman (Cosmosquad)
Marcus Deml (Electric Outlet)
Javi Marssiano (O'Funk'Illo)
Chris Poland
