hey guys i am having some problems well not rly but still don't feel quite good :X

for exemple my vocals bassist and drummer like grunge alot and 80% of our music list is like foo fighters, queen of stone age, alice in chains...its not that i don't like but i am more a hard rock /thrash/progressive guy...and good think is that they hate almost everything from those styles ...<.< even maiden D:....and it really streets me out beeing "the leader" and don't playing much of the things i would like to cuz of the other members....

A band is a team. Write your songs together, and fight for the things you write, while let the others also get their will. If the majority of your band like a specific type of music, its only natural that the band will have the majority of things from those styles.
If you intend to be in a leader-position in a band, expect to write 100% of the music yourself... and find members willing to play it.

If 3 out of 4 wants to play a specific type of music, of course the band will go towards that direction. If you dont want to follow that, you have to write the songs on your own, and if they are not in on that, then they will leave. That is what a band is, and that is what a leader is.
You have to decide if you are in a band, or if you are the leader of one. Sorry, but in my mind, thats the tough reality. smile.gif

Solle has put it very well.
It's necessary to share thoughts and talk about preferences within the band.
You shouldn't play stuff you really don't like. You could, as mentioned,
make your own songs and find a way in between.
Combining te two may be a solution.
With that I mean staying with you current band and starting something with other musicians in the genre you prefer.
Hope I could help smile.gif

I went though that. Let your heart lead you, there is no point staying in band playing the music that's not your preference, in my opinion. Be passionate towards the music you like and then gather the musicians similar to the interest. Rock on

It sounds like you are going to need to start looking for a new band. But don't jump ship too soon. Until you have another situation to go to, there's not much point in bailing on your current band. Just playing with other musicians is a great way to help you progress as a musician. Even playing stuff you don't love. As a matter of fact, I even joined a blues band for a while and played Bass just to be exposed to the "groove". I did that for a year and it it really did shape the way I played guitar afterward. So look at this group as a way to play, to get used to working with other musicians, etc. But maybe start looking for a new situation with folks that want to play the same stuff you do.

Todd

If the band members don't want to accept your style of playing and hate things you play - leave. Plenty of bands out there smile.gif

You can always start a side project. Write a bunch of songs in your style of music then find people who would want to play it. Once you get your own band established you can leave the one you're in.

I think somebody already posted some advice just like this wacko.gif

Yes, I'd support that.

I've been in that situation myself and it's frustrating beyond belief. I was trying to create a proper metal band with people that didn't even have a single Iron Maiden or Metallica album in their collection ohmy.gif

Musical integrity is something that I feel incredibly strongly about.. I don't believe we should waste our time, and others time, by not following our true passions.. if we don't listen to our heart then everybody involved ends up unhappy.

This usually happens when bands first form, usually from school friends or friends of friends etc.. we always tend to just get the first people that come along, just because we've heard they're a drummer or bass player etc.. we put together bands more out of convenience rather than actually having the same goals and tastes. I'm sure we've all encountered this with our first bands ! biggrin.gif

But I will say that making the decision to lead a band and find the right people that do want the same things as me was the best thing I could have ever done. It might be harder, and may take longer.. because for every person who could fit, there are 10 more who won't. But you won't have to compromise your tastes and you can take pride in the fact that you were honest with yourself. When people are honest with themselves (not just you but anybody) then we won't waste their time and they won't waste ours.. so we don't get into situations that make us unhappy. When you start to feel that you're compromising too much and having to swallow too many feelings, letting things go that you normally wouldn't etc.. that's a sure sign that something isn't right. So keep this in your mind when choosing any potential band members and you'll stand a better chance at forming an excellent band of like minded people who you can trust and enjoy working with smile.gif

You should try to start your own band and find members who would like to play styles and things you want. If you start your band you will also get a clearer voice in the band and the "leader" role. Band is a team united with a clear "vision of future" usually coming from the founding members/leader. If you don't share the same vision (in this case style of music) then it may be a problem. Of course that is ultimately up to you and depends what are your motives and aspirations as a musician. If you can adapt and make a compromise that is the best solution.
