Hi Zsolt!
A question if u got the time:)

In the beginning of B Locrian you play E - D - C (12th fret) 12 -10 -8
I noticed u played it with E - pinkyfinger and D - middlefinger.
So the question is : Is it nesscesary to play D with middlefinger instead of ringfinger? Maybe its a stretching thing cause I like to have my thumb back on the neck and I have a very hard time getting it to work:D
If I put the whole hand against neck I can do it pretty easy but then I must change back to thumbposition again in the next sequens of the scale...
Whats the best do u think?
In Muris lesson on AP he does the same as u with the fingers.
If u say that its best to train a habit with middlefinger on the D note I will surely put all my effort to stretch and train that!
Now I bet u gonna say : Play the way u feel most comfortable with wink.gif
I will do whatever u say rolleyes.gif

Hope you understand may way of putting it hehe..

Hi Thomas!

Which Modal Madness series are you specifically talking about here or which video part? Because I always use my ringfinger instead of the middle finger while playing 3 notes/sting. I've tried to find it in the video but I couldn't.

Nothing is mandatory smile.gif You can play anyway you like it or the way it suit you the most.

Again, when I play these scales I like to use the same fingering everywhere. I usually use my ring finger while playing these scales.

Cheers

Hi and thx for answering Zsolt!

Its the Harmonic Minor and the second part of the video.
From thin string E (12th fret) it goes back to D and then C. It seems you play pinky on E and middlefinger on D. As I have practise this a LOT now I use middlefinger just like you do. Its seems that its the most natural thing to do now..
Its so nooby question I guess, but when it comes to faster speed the fingers really need to find the "fastest" way!
The pattern of 5 frets and 3 finger position is not so easy to do fast biggrin.gif

I think I have found the answer now:)

Ps. This Harmonic minor is VERY hard to master! Major scales I do at 100bmp now and pentatonic the same but this scale is very hard for me.
I read in another topic where u said that 500 times would be enough to practise one scale in one position and then move on to next position in scale? I guess that would be the thing to do on this one?

But I wont give up. Ur lessons have helped me alot as I play along with different songs.
Thx for sharing the videos!

Hi again, Thomas!

It could have been an optical illusion :DDD

But I actually use my ring finger there. Now that you've mastered it the other way, don't bother changing it, but use the same shape on every 3notes/string pattern.

Yes, 500 times a day for around 20-30 days, depending on your focus mastery. You'll notice that you'll instantly be able to play any other scale pretty nicely.

And thank you for your kind words, if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask them smile.gif

And forgive me if I don't answer right away, I'm currently very busy, a new Wisdom CD and video is comming out in a few days.

Cheers

Hi again wink.gif

One question:

I can play all the positions in modal madness 1 at 100 bpm.. Should I still only play first position 500 times a day in 20 days? And THEN move over to second position and play that 500 times/day etc..
Or can I play all positions at once over and over again?
I play the first 2 positions way better than the others cause I have played them alot. Maybe its better to concentrate in one at a time...
What do you think Zsolt? Cause I really want to master all these lessons to 100%.

Only post when you have time:)

Hi Thomas!

Nice to hear from you smile.gif

The idea of repeating is in developing muscle memory. These numbers work differently with everyone regarding their ability to focus. You should seek out the best possible way of practicing for yourself.

Now to give you an answer: what I'd do is to repeat the first position 500 times, and if I have more time I'd practice the second. When I get to the 20th day, I'd play the first position less-and-less and go on to the followings.

If you practice the first position, you should feel that the rest of the positions are more and more easier to play.

A few more technical hints:

*Always hold your guitar's neck with a loose wrist. Position your 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th finger at the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th fret on your low E string loosely, this is the basic technique. Then you can move on.

*Try to move your fingers as less as possible. This is the economy of motion. The less you move the faster you'll be. What I mean by this is to try and don't raise your fingers above the neck more that 2 cm-s.

*Memorise the finger positions rather than the neck positions, so you'll be able to play all the modes of all the keys on your neck.

Cheers

Hi;)
Oh, this is excellent hints!
Lucky for me its the way I position my fingers already biggrin.gif And I try to not raise my fingers to high..so far so good!
I will do as u suggest and play first position for atleast 30-45 minutes. But it will then take like 140 days to get just one scale:)
But I think its worth it cause its at the same time both major and minor scales I will master, yes?
If I learn major then its minor 3 frets lower? So yes, its definately worth the effort! And then practice it all in improvising..hmm..

Thx a lot Zsolt! Much appreciated:)

I'll come back and let u know progress later on!

Hey man!

Not that you'll master just major and minor scales, but all the modes of the major/minor.

There are lots of ways to practice these. If you are bored to play everything from Am/Gm, play them in different keys as well. Remember to memorize the shapes/fingerings rather than the positions.

There is another exelent way to practice them. Try to play every mode from the same key, say E. This is what Satrinani did and came up with the "Pich Axis" theory.

It is really worth to practice these day by thay as in time all the scales you'll play will be very easy to play.

Cheers

Hi!

A little info on my progress as I rest my fingers and wrist a bit tongue.gif

Well, its the 14:th day now at first position which is A-minor or course (or E-minor, F, G or whatever, as I practice at all keys)
In the beginning I started with metronom on 50 (6 picks/beat). Then 70 and now I am practicing on 95, which I am very happy with smile.gif
Of course I get bored sometimes but its becomes lika a mantra haha... I did try at 105 but thats to hard for me at the moment!

As I know all the modes a little bit I have practice on imporvising a bit. And specially Emir Hots Rock Ballad. Hes jamloop at that lesson really rocks and I have NEVER played that good before! Your lesson here Zsolt is so incredible good and I sure will go all the way with this:)

So I will continue and change position after 7 days more..

Just letting u know:))

Thx for inspiration!!

Wow, this is awesome news! smile.gif

I know this feeling, when you suddenly are able to play beyond you've ever played before and that rocks!

Just go on practicing every day. One day you'll be able to go beyond 120 and then you'll be armed with a machine gun biggrin.gif

Can't wait to hear your progress, man!

Cheers
