I've been thinking a lot about amps lately and I was thinking about how far I've come from my first amp to my current amp.

My first amp was a Fender Bullet series.....something along the lines of this:

My current amps are a Fender Blues Jr NOS, and a 1972 Fender Silverface Vibrolux Reverb. Such a long journey from the Bullet to the Vibrolux!

What was your first amp?

My first amp was a Crate GFX-15, which I thought was cool because it had distortion. I think it was one of the last budget practice amps to be built in the US. Its got a terrible speaker in it, it farts out after turning it up less then a fifth of the way up. It pails in comparison to my current weapon of mass destruction, the Peavey Ultra Plus matched with a Marshall JCM 800 1960a cab. And when its combined with the Peavey Valveking thats matched with a Peavey 5150 cab, the result is 220W of Earth-splitting tube tone biggrin.gif

My first amp was a Marshall Valvestate 30, got it from my Dad for my 18th birthday. Great amp, I also had a footswitch to change between clean and distorted channel. This was the time when I first got serious about the guitar and played along to many of my favourite records...I still remember a little scene: One of my friends came over, I was playing along to Metallica's S&M album, he asked my mom if I was home and she said: Martin, we all can hear he is home... lol

I sold it a couple of years ago and got a Vox AD50VT with integrated effects and amp simulator...never regretted it.

My first amp was a HH Studio 50 like the one here.

Bought it used from Hessey´s in Liverpool way back in the mid 1970s. When I bought it they also had a used Vox AC30 for the same price and I still got the HH rolleyes.gif ...

Haha, nice topic! smile.gif

I got my first amp with my first guitar for my 14th birthday or so...
I checked the unit but it really didn't have any brand on it.
Owned it for several years, but never really played the amp...I used to play my squier tele unplugged, because of the horrible sound on that thing. tongue.gif

First and current is a 75 watt Line 6. It's got lot's of fancy gadgets and effects, more than I need at this point in my career.

my first amp was from my mums catalogue, and I paid a couple of quid a week for it til it was paid off, it was an unbranded (or possibly "Kays") 50watt single channel amp, just a gain, bass, treble and master volume pots.

complete garbage lookign back on it, and I blew it up (not with dynamite or anything, although that could have been fun!?) when I ran a whole load of effects through it and had the thing cranked up full laugh.gif smoke pouring out of it the lot.

strangely, the second amp I had I borrowed from a friend, that was a Carlsbro 50 watt amp, it suffered a similar fate as I recall huh.gif

Then I moved on to a Fender Frontman 15R:

and now I'm playing a custom Overdrive 50W all-tube amp.

I built one of these from a kit in the early 70's (I was around age 11 to 13). It took a long time but don't be too impressed. It was similar to a "paint-by-numbers" kit. I still have it & it works fine except the actual spring reverb no longer works. I will never get rid of it.
