Hey all, I just got the guitar #2 position in a local musical at a high school. They are doing the wedding singer. 22+ songs I have to sight read...really pushing my limits.

Have any of you done anything like that whether for a high school play or a full orchestra?

This is the first time I have had to sight read for guitar.

I do normally about 2-3 shows a year... not much but a bit to keep my hand in.

Whilst it isn't really my cup of tea I do find them enjoyable.

I am doing Joseph in a couple of week, Lloyd-Webber tends to be pretty easy as it's all 3 or 4 chords and 4/4...

Did Oliver just before Christmas and that was a lot harder than I expected. The hardest one I've done is chitty chitty bang band, everything is in cut time and really moves.

Most of the work I have done has been mainly chord charts with notation thrown in.

It's good practise and you can earn an ok living out of doing am-dram stuff let alone west end (broadway for you) shows. A girl I know is on an am-dram show every week (normally 5 performances) and clears £250 a week out of the shows, chuck in a bit of teaching (10 hours) and she easily clears £500 a week, which isn't a bad living...

A guitarist who can work in a pit and read will never be out of work smile.gif

Enjoy

That's a cool thing to be able to do smile.gif

There's a friend of mine who learned to sight read all by himself and can easily read classical music now... that's amazing biggrin.gif
