Gsp1101 Advice

I'm looking to start a basic home studio in my room (no dedicated room with acoustics etc.). I was going to get a Focusrite Saffire 6, to run my guitar/bass/monitors from. I was then going to have to get a VST such as guitar rig. This was already going to be pretty expensive for my budget. Today I found out about the Digitech GSP1101 . What if I just used this as my studio center-piece? I could run my Mackie MR-5's out of it, as well as my DAW, right? Could I plug in my keyboard into the GSP1101 input even? No, I dont see that. While it will work as sound card for your computer, being able to record and playback whatever audio you want, I dont think it will work as an input for your midi controller. It does have midi input, but that is probably for switching between amps and effects for your guitars in a live situation (or wah, whammy etc). I might be wrong though. I was thinking the keyboard could be plugged in with the 1/4" jack, just like the guitar. Would this not be desirable? I know it's not as good as MIDI connection probably. Dont have any experience with the DigiTech GSP1101, sadly. Maybye some else has If what you are aiming for is to start a basic home studio, it might be a future investment to buy an ok audio card. Perhaps at some point you would also want to record some vocals, etc? But for just recording guitars, that unit should be more than perfectly fine. I would maybye look into the new Line 6 HD series though, as they sound much better than most other units out there now (except Axe FX). I am now considering it for my Marshall/rock tone needs, while getting Amplitube Fender for my all my blues modeling needs. My concern is that every demo of the GSP1101 I see on YouTube is people using it for metal/hard rock tone, and that the clean tones on it aren't worth mentioning. My other option is getting an interface like the Focusrite Saffire, and Guitar Rig. Since I'm doing all this to set up a beginner home studio, the Saffire option might be the better path since it provides multiple inputs for instruments. Thoughts? The thing with sound card is that it has ability to record vocals, run MIDI, and has better mixer capabilities. One thing I've found important with front end of your studio is that you need to have a good patching app. E-MU cards have great Patch application that can enable you to patch your audio anyway you like. At some point you will find that you cannot patch your audio streams with digitech, you cannot plugin MIDI controllers, and you cannot record good vocals. I would advise digitech, but it's way to expensive for that purpose. Try some E-MU card (skip M-Audio because of poor software), and go to software modellers. Last night I picked up the KRK Rokit 5's, Focusrite Saffire 6, Amplitube Fender, and Addictive Drums. I'm running everything into Reaper right now. The only problem is that I can't seem to have Reaper/Addictive Drums/Amplitube running at once. I can't use Amplitube while running Reaper, there's a conflict I'm trying to work out.
