Any suggestions for helping your sound when tapping? More mids? Less mids? Gain? And learning to play clean helps also I'm sure .gotta work on that

Gain always helps, at least for me, the bigger the distortion/gain, less effort I need to make the tapping sound, and make it sustain much longer.

As for the EQ, not sure, I always have my stomps the same way, but I guess that if you are tapping on high strings increasing hiogh EQ would only help. Never thought of it really.

The biggest help is making sure you're doing the actual tapping properly.

I know it may sound basic, but if you're not tapping that sweet spot (this especially applies for the higher frets), or you're not applying the right amount of pressure to a tap, it's going to come out sounding rubbish. Also, check that your fretting hand is able to hammer-on and pull-off cleanly.

Check out Todd's most recent technique lesson. It deals with the fretting hand legato you need, and tapping:

Practicing with less gain will definately help. You could always cheat and just turn that up to 11, but that won't help you in the long run!
