I do lots of big bends, so this is why they snapped. Try to put thicker strings, and possibly lower down the tuning until you get used to it. I don't think any 11 will snap. You can try 11-48 set, they are good as well.

I'm up to four E strings learning Laszlo's SRV lesson. I got five more in the pack. Lets see if I can learn it before I get through the whole pack biggrin.gif

SLINKIES!
I have never broken a string, and I don't think I'm a wimpy bender either - often hit 1 1/2 note bends.
If they're not breaking where they're touching, then it sounds like bad strings to me. Perhaps the strings on the guitar and the strings you bought were from the same batch of depleted uranium biggrin.gif

Did you try giving them a real stretch whle tuning them up for the first time? I used to have the same problems, then I read on a DR package or something that stretching them quite hard gives the strings durability, and its not just for the stability in tuning. I do occasionally do 4-5 ST bends using 9 and 10 gauge, barely broken a string in two years.

Yup, tried the Slinkies. They lasted about 20 minutes worth of SRV bending biggrin.gif Right now the score is two breaks at the bridge and two after the bridge. I should call Fender and see if they can hook me up with a set of their depleted uranium strings.

I got a set of six E strings, slinkies. I now wanna see if I can go through the whole set, maybe I'll get more street cred... then maybe I'll tattoo strings running down the side of my face, one for each one I wasted.

I did stretch them out and let them stabilize. I'm starting to think SRV put a hex on me. He's probably saying, "Stop desecrating my music you hairy monkey!"
