You can use Gearbox software to edit tones.

You can use Gearbox or PodFarm to tweak the tones.
I use the POD both through headphones and 2.1 desktop speakers, and both sound good to me, though you will have to tweak the sounds a bit depending on the output, as all speakers are different. -------------------- Guitars:

Well, they say to safely disconnect USB to avoid a crash - you know, don't pull the plug unless you disconnected the port first.
Besides that, and I don't recall how by heart, you get ASIO drivers. That's a sound driver with very little latency (delay) so that you hear the sound immediately as it's played. Maybe that's the reason why you don't get a sound what so ever? -------------------- My bands homepage

Using the POD and the internal sound card at the same time could probably cause conflict... or at least make use more difficult. Think of the POD as the main sound interface. It could of course be used as a unit that you keep off your computers USB port and connect to the internal soundcard. It shouldn't sound better/different then how it sounds when you're playing through it. When using the pod with a computer, either with gearbox or podfarm, you can hear the sound through your headphones, or monitors, or 2.1 desktop speakers, it doesn't matter.
In day time I plug my 2.1 desktop speakers. In night time, I plug the headphones. And I always control it through Gearbox, as it's much easier than tweaking the pod's knobs. On top of that, having the POD connected to the computer also allows you to record its signal, which is the main reason to get a POD in the first place. One last thing, as others mentioned, is that when you are using the POD with nthe computer it overtakes the sound card of your system, meaning that the Pod IS the soundcard. Even for sounds that don't come from it, it is processing all the sound. Check it on the control panel, you should see the POD is teh soundcard when it's turned on, and when you turn it off your usual soundcard will replece it, as usual. -------------------- Guitars:

Crashes can mean a lot of things mate. Now, as others have said, if you plug POD X3 via USB to your computer, POD will became your sound card. This means that you now need to plug your headphones/speakers into POD, and enable POD as a default sound card for your system. Please check if you did this as well before attempting anything else.
1. It could be that your sound card conflicts in some way with the POD. In order to check this option, you better disable your sound card in hardware manager, and uninstall all the drivers 2. It could be that the drivers for POD that you installed are not suitable for you system. Not sure about this cause I'm not sure what type of OS and what PC you have, but you should check this on the web. 3. It could be that the buffer size is causing problems. In your driver settings, or POD service application, you need to try to increase your buffer size. 4. It could be that you are using the POD on some conflicting USB port, try using it on some other port, and try unpluggin other USB hardware that you have to see if this is the problem. Something I skipped to do couple of times, and in the same time the biggest reason why I couldn't handle that gear!  Some people don't prefer manuals, but they are great for me.
