the position of the note will vary, depending on the box you are in.

a major scale's home note will feel like it pulls you towards it, when playing that scale. you can really tell just by playing with the notes on the scale, and it will be obvious to you, which note tends to want to pull you home.

The root note will be in a different location for each box - most scale charts mark them in a different colour. The root note is your signpost to understanding how the different boxes fit together.

Hey, "sharp something blah blah bla" - never heard of that scale smile.gif

Which sort of scales are you meaning are more complex? Scales with a sharp (like G#, F#, C#) are exactly the same as any other scales, you just start at a different place on the fret board ... or were you meaning something else?

nah i mean like exotic ones, like the people made up ones that sound good, but was made by accident, and the theory came after.... and the complicated ones are the ones that go up differently from it goes down, does that help?

Definatley - there are a lot of really wierd sounding exotic scales. They are worth being aware of, but I wouldn't go out and learn them all smile.gif
