Because of the music I mostly play, I don't tend to get to be creative with modes too much just Ionian, Aeolian and the occasional Dorian

I really like combining pentatonic minor with Dorian mode! You should try the Lydian mode which is also really cool sounding.

I always like the Dorian for a minor sound. D E F G A B C D, so a m6 chord outline. Don't know why, kind of dark but the 6th really stands out. One of my favorite modes of all time.

For static vamps I love dorian, but my favourite mode I guess would have to be super locrian (altered), works so well over altered dom7 chords smile.gif

I share Cosmin's opinion who wrote earlier that he loves all the modes. For me it is the same - they all have their own world!:)

However, I really love the mixolydian mode, because it has at least two different faces: besides the obvious rock/blues vibe, it can produce some Himalaya-type eastern flavors too!

Believe it or not, this is also a mixolydian tune (the root note is D)
