I've been reading a lot about the Q3 and watched some youtube clips. It seems pretty good and considering to buy it.
But then again I also checked out the Zoom H4n and it seems even better and cubase 4 is following in the package, but I want the video part, would be so great to record myself or some band or parties or whatever with good sound and filmquality smile.gif

Does any of you have any experience in using some of these? Is it worth to buy?

Please let me know rolleyes.gif

Thx / Thomas

I just checked this device (Q3) and I like it! smile.gif
Concept is really cool - concentrating on high quality audio. I'm not sure how video component is good but from the test videos it seems decent. Definitely an interesting choice for a musician as it's very portable.

These are nice units smile.gif But keep in mind that the video is there mostly as a reference. It's SD not HD only 640x480 so it's about like an old web cam in terms of resolution. That being said, the video quality is probably fine for internet vid, quick and dirty band practice vid, etc.

The good news is that mics are nice and the video is really just a bonus.

Well, the sound of the device will be good, I'm guessing it has built-in limiter for loud environments, but the video is a bit small, although it's enough for some quick recording. It runs on batteries, so I'm guessing it can be very handy device to have. I say - why not smile.gif

Thanks for your very positive answers smile.gif

But my bad, its of course this one : Zoom Q3 Handy Video HD.
Here are some samples from an article:

The HD Videos are recorded in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format, which can be played on a computer using QuickTime player. The Q3HD can record video in full HD at 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, allowing you to enjoy your finely-detailed audio and video on your large HDTV. You can also select 720p HD for longer recordings, as well as SD formats when smaller file sizes are needed.

With two studio-quality condenser microphones configured in a wide 120 X/Y pattern, your Q3HD can capture even the loudest live concerts in HD with incredibly clear audio. Time lags generated by differences in distances from sound sources are eliminated by aligning the left and right recording positions on the same axis. In addition to left-right stereo width, a sense of depth from front to back is also captured faithfully, allowing your recordings to sound three-dimensional.

The Q3HDfs bundled HandyShare editing and uploading software lets you to manage and edit your videos easily as well as upload them to social networking sites. From live musical performances, rehearsals and recitals to journalism, education and sports, you can easily share your movies with everyone on your favorite websites like YouTube or Vimeo. Moreover, effect functions in the software allow you to bring the sound of video recordings up to the level of a finished product. Normalize a recording for a consistent volume level, add reverb to give rich reflections to the sounds of instruments and voices and use a mastering effect to enhance the impact of a performance with compression. Just select a preset. Itfs easy enough for anyone to use.

Sounds VERY good and I will buy it for sure smile.gif Wanted to check with u pro musicians first wink.gif

Havn't used this one in particular but in general I'm overall impressed with gear from Zoom for quality, ease of use and competitive price.
I guess the Q3HD cam has the same mikes as H4n so for sound quality you should get the same. Where normal video cams fail and distort from massive sound preassure these mikes handle it. We used to use a Zoom H2 for recording band practice, now we use a Zoom R16, sound is teriffic.

If people used a Q3HD instead of a cell phone recording concerts we'd have some great clips on youtube wink.gif

Maybe especially for beginners and normal users. I'm sure professionals have higher expectations from their gear. But they also pay at least ten times more.

It's a great unit for the price. It's got HD video, but keep in mind that the video is from a really small imager/glass and doesn't have much for optical zoom, low light etc. It's mostly about the audio. But for concerts, live practice recording, etc. it does a killer job. It's a great stereo audio recorder with a high end HD web cam style camera thrown in. If they put any greater imaging tech on it the price would probably triple.

Sure thing it's a great device. For what would you use it for?
