Hey guys!

how many of you are experienced in working with drum programming and of course, from this question arise a couple more:

- do you find it easy to place yourself in a drummer's place and think as one, or do you easily get distracted because you're thinking more like a guitarist?

-what's the best approach in keeping a healthy balance which would eventually lead to the creation of an awesome song, bringing out the best of both worlds?

We'll talk a lot about this starting from tonight's video chat and continuing in this thread from now on, with tips and materials, advices and answers wink.gif

That's a real good subject Cosmin. I try very hard to think what a drummer would do. I draw on my personal experiences of playing with drummers and knowing/seeing what they hit.. and what I hear on albums smile.gif

Guys, I had a big obsession for drumming since I realized that the drums are the engine of a song - a bad drummer can turn a song into nothing regardless of how good the vocal lines are!

My goal is to make you guys more aware of how to relate to drummers and how to communicate with them in order to create awesome stuff and why not, make you think like a good drummer tongue.gif

YESS MASTER COSMIN!! THE DRUMMER CHANGES EVERYTHING, NEVER EVER DOUBT ABOUT IT!

EXAMPLE:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O9Sf4P38oE ( " Embedding disabled by request" sad.gif )

IMAGINE THESE SONG WITH A SIMPLE DRUMMER

SWING baby SWING it's all u need

My main problem is that as i am not a drummer it's really hard to transmit mi ideas to my drummer, i start to make as an air drummer happy.gif and try to make the sound i want with my mouth

It's also very important that your drummer has a hairstyle like Mike Terrana

biggrin.gif

and one more thing: if you want to have a drummer like Terrana you should play the guitar as good as Smolsky (Rage Guitar player) or be famous like Dav Matthews biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Maybe I can get a few hints here.

My problem is: I've been using EZ drummer for a long time now. Always thought it was quick and easy to use. But recently when I lay down a riff or rhythm with the guitar I'm not satisfied. I think the riff/rhythm and beat don't work along but work against each other.
Know what I mean? If I put a suitable drum track first and play the riff/rhythm on top of that I will adapt my playing to the drums and the end result will be something different that I wanted.

What I'd like is an ambient drummer that is easier to adapt to the rhythm, not the other way around. Instead of me adapting to EZ drummer.

Any ideas? Point is recording guitar and bass is what I want, I don't care so much to edit MIDI files. A simpler drum track would be better then since it's about recording songs for the band. Doesn't have to be perfect, but good enough.

Hey man, well, my approach is pretty simple smile.gif I create a click with the hi-hats, I record my idea, then build a groove from scratch and adapt it until it perfectly suits my guitar playing. I never work with pre-made grooves.
