Hey, I want to record some of my bands live conserts.
I have some microphones, a M-AUDIO Fast Track USB sound board and a laptop.

First:
What microphone should I use?
I have a Shure SM57, Shure SM58 and a complete set of drum-microphones.

And:
Where in the room should I place the mic?
We usually play inside small rooms, at about the size of one or two classrooms

thanks for all answers smile.gif

btw, I can only connect one mic to the sound board

SM58 in from of the vocalist's mouth. SM57 in front of the amp/cabinet, either pointing towards the middle of the cone or by it's side or anywhere in between, whatever gives the best tone for you. You can also use two SM57's for each amp. On pointing to the mid and one angled in from the side.
So if you have a bass player you should use a SM57 for him/her too.

Otherwise for a simpler deal just place the mike in front of the stage where you have a sound picture containing all instruments. Or the mikes, in different places to really catch all sounds. Be sure to point the SM57 towards you people.

I'm rather lousy at this myself but at least it's an answer since I saw you got no replies at all yet :-)

thanks for the answer smile.gif but what I meant was to place one microphone to record whats coming out of the main speakers. I dont have enough mics for all the instuments + vocals, plus I dont want to carry around a mixer tongue.gif

but which of the mics that I have would you recomend? I am only using one
