I have hit a rut.

I can rip off leads, solos, and improvise a quick cool sounding riff in a heartbeat, but....

I don't know any songs.

People hear me play and are like WOW!!!

But, then they say, what songs do you know? sad.gif

Can we get some more song lessons?

PLEASE smile.gif

In FreeLicks there are a few, but the best and most complete seems to be the AC/DC song "You Shook Me All Night Long".

Can we get more like that?

I really think it would greatly improve my playing to rip off songs perfectly.
Hopefully others feel the same way.

Thanks,

Howard

Hi Howard,
I had the same question when i first joined here. The reason why is because of copyright laws. It is ok to have others song on Freelicks because it is a non profit free site. If you learn the Techniques present on GMC, you should be able to play other peoples songs as you will have gained a skill set! smile.gif

Not a lawyer, but I HIGHLY doubt that it is not a violation of copyright law anywhere. Free site means nothing, that would not be the issue in such a case. The damages to the parties owning the intellectual property would be the issue, I don't think being a free site would have any materiality whatever. Very much violation of copyright law on internet, just because it is not all being pursued in court does not mean it is not illegal. Very difficult to pursue a lot of these cases, especially when they are based in countries that to do take an active role in trying to control the abuses, where corruption is endemic.

Actually, there is a significant difference between education and profit. Education is one of the legitimate reasons for using copyrighted material, the other most common are parody and criticism. You're high school didn't have to license copies of books that you read because they are being used for educational material. Now, once you start charging for that class or that education there becomes a need to acquire the right to use materials.

My web media company has a lot of sites and I deal quite often with copyright. It is no more illegal to teach someone how to play copyrighted material as it is to actually play copyrighted material. It all changes when money is involved. Education is a copyright umbrella.
