Hi,

The Video Chat room is excellent, but I found a usability problem. The video chat room is unable to paste any text in the input box if I copy an text or url from my computer (Windows). During chatting, I may need to paste some useful link to someone or instructor, but it just can't paste on it. That's frustrated.

Note: Sorry, this thread subject has a typo, but I can't change it. It should be remove the "Goto Last Unread" from the thread subject.

Thanks,
Will

Thanks Will, that is a known bug which occurred with recent Java platform update (on which the chat is based on).
Unfortunately we can't currently do anything about it (since its Java engine that is causing this) - but fix will come out hopefully soon.

There is possibility to copy-paste links which are written inside the chat window.
This service will make a short text link out of a long url : http://tinyurl.com/

Tiny is is a very hand resource. It's how I share links to notes/tabs for my Saturday Video Chat Lessons. Thank to Bogdan for showing me that copy/paste does work inside the chat app itself It has saved me tons of retyping!

bit.ly is another shorting service and you can customize your urls to make them easy to remember! For example, my lessons in the wiki here @ GMC can be found through the shortened link bit.ly/twtgmc

and the main thread for notes on my lessons is

bit.ly/lessonnotes

so if you have an url you may want to share over time, and it's long, have it shortened and customize a name! smile.gif

It's a Java Applet, right?

What if I downgrade to specific JRE version? Which JRE version is ok for copy/paste?

The copy and paste works fine for me and always has (inside and outside video chat), but I know some people have issues with it.

I have the latest web-browsers IE and FF, up-to-date Java installed, etc.
I just select text, use Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste.

One thing I do have different is I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 which has the optional warns of issue in Java and other applications/plugins - suggests downgrades or upgrades. I tend to follow that to patch up security holes (Java is a real bad one sometimes).

Can you please check which version of Java you have?
You can do it here : http://javatester.org/version.html

What is "can't paste nothing"? Do you mean "You can't paste anything"?

OK, here is a possible solution for everyone having a copy-paste issue with the GMC chat.

Please note that we do not recommend or endorse downgrading of Java since it is always safest to have the latest version installed!

Copy-Paste works with the Java version : Java 1.6.0_23
To downgrade your Java you need to first uninstall it from your computer and then download this version : Java 1.6.0_23
You can find it on this web site : http://www.oldapps.com/java.php

Confirmed, I just tried 'Java Version: 1.6.0_26 from Sun Microsystems Inc.' and lost the copy and paste (inside and outside of vid chat), you can only do it inside the chatbox now.
