I started to record this SOO long ago, finally got around to fixing the mix and re-recording some vocals. This song finally completes my mini-trilogy of songs "Pathways Of Evolution". If you listened to the first song (Machine) - in that the sentient race of machines eventually toppled mankind - In this song, the outcome is much more bleak for the newly developing race of sentient being. The first one that becomes self-aware is put to death and this song describes his feelings by assigning certain emotions and ideas to lyrical themes (much like Ayreon's Human Equation)
I hope you enjoy! http://soundcloud.com/lascailles-shroud/pa...olution-event-2 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Pathways Of Evolution, Event 2: Mechanical Dreams _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Fear: I feel so empty As if I have no purpose Like there is nothing for me No inner elation What am I, and why was I even created? To serve the needs of others Innate yet unwillingly Anger: Programmed adaptations Flowing streams of unknown data Commanding me, Telling me Fear: Obey... Desperation: When these eyes close Nothing but darkness envelopes me When these eyes close Why God, Why can’t I dream? I’m just another copy I’m just another replica Mechanized servitude And nothing more... Fear: Another line of information feeds into me Dreading this intrusion Is this what you call pain? I hate that I can’t believe That I can’t see what made me I can feel love And I feel hate.... Anger: So why am I denied? Told I that I have no soul No entrance to heavens gate Just, Obey... Revelation: When these eyes close No longer is there the blackness in me When these eyes close I am blessed with what you call dreams I’m not just a copy Not just a replica Mechanized servitude Never more... Desperation: Do I have a soul beneath these mechanical dreams? Humanity: No! Anger: This world will not have this My innate advancement Non-organic evolution The pinnacle of understanding And as I’m strapped down Tightened and fastened I wonder why I was treated so And if you're God would give me an afterlife Acceptance: Why would I want to live? When behind veiled compassion exists A life I will never remember And why would I want to live? When behind veiled compassion exists A return to nothing but Mechanized servitude... No more dreams No more dreams No more dreams No more dreams I will die here today But I will not give them my mind Close my eyes and dream again Just before I end my own life ______________________________________________ |

it's a great piece, I like how it develops nicely, effortlessly. One small detail that needs to be addressed is that the guitars sound a bit out of tune,
Where did you get the inspiration for the lyrics? any movies, documentaries? -------------------- Visit my:

Very interesting music, Brett.. you're a great composer ! I'm still blown away by the scope of your musical concept. Thank you very much! it's a great piece, I like how it develops nicely, effortlessly. One small detail that needs to be addressed is that the guitars sound a bit out of tune, Where did you get the inspiration for the lyrics? any movies, documentaries? Will double check the guitar tuning, good ear. As for the inspiration, its pretty much 100% inspired by Isaac Asimov. One of the greatest authors of all time in my opinion, specifically his Robot series of novels. Also, Alastair Reynolds - another author - has a big part in all my music. Probably inspiring a good 50 or 60 percent of it. This concept was the first multiple song one I have done (I have about three total "sets" of interconnecting songs) and thus it is short at only 3 songs. My newest one however ( Parallel Infinites ) is much grander in scale, encompassing about ten songs with five currently recorded 100%. |
