Playing with a new Toy today! Going to shoot my instructor vid with as it's first project. Can't wait!

Running audio separately and recording directly to the computer so I end up with a quicktime movie with audio and video synced up. This cuts down on transfer times (getting footage off of a card etc.) and synch time, (synching up audio and video when using a DSLR is common since many folks use a seprate system for audio with various mics, mixer etc.)

Great, congrats !! If you need any assistance about settings, I'm here to help as I can smile.gif .
A few tips :don't forget to set the movie parameters to > manually. And something else - turn off image stabilization on the lens, it significantly extends the battery life! I guess that a camera would be on a stand, that eliminate the need for stabilization.

All good tips to be sure! Thanks smile.gif It's on a tripod and i'm using the EOSUTILITY to control the camera remotely via computer over USB and I get a full screen HD preview on my iMac when shooting videos which is great!

rolleyes.gif Update|

Yesterday I got a two outstanding lenses:

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens

Honestly, I don't know what to say other than - perfect. I would say that this is a "must have" lenses for every Pro photographer.
Since I will test them out for my video needs, I will show some footage soon...

Here are a few test pictures with 10 22mm

Nice!! Haha, I love the computer shot. laugh.gif

I need a nice camera soooo bad. I'm still using my iPhone which is just getting unacceptable at this point.

Pics look great too. Even in the low light. The one on the bottom is especially sharp. I'll be interested to see what the video looks like.

Glidecam

Simply glidecam is hand-held stabilizing system for your camera. You all know how the picture is sometimes shaky when you walk and try to recording video at the same time - well, this device minimizes that effect..

These devices can work well in stabilizing the footage. Downsides is that its a skill/sport on its own to use it properly! smile.gif
Also, its important to get a stabilizer that fits the camera weight otherwise its almost impossible to balance. The heavier the cam - the better.

Copies of the famous Steady cam can also have problems like "rolling" motion where cam would just start spinning on its own inside the stabilizer, during the shooting due to motion. This can be really annoying as you end up shooting yourself smile.gif

Update :

Magic Lantern v 2.3

I test it for a month already, and can say that I am very satisfied with the performance that this unofficial update brings.
I was very hesitant given that the camera can easily become a brick if you make a mistake during installation, plus Canon doesn't accept warranty in this case ( the creators of ML says that everything is at your own risk ), so that was a biggest doubt for me .
So, given that I'm not normal often, I did it finally !!

There are a plenty of new features which significantly facilitates the work, especially with video shooting, that your beloved DSLR becomes a powerful machine, almost in the range of 10x more expensive professional cameras !

Last insanity of this workshop is to shoot in RAW mode, which means that you can reach 4k density of picture, but you need to have really powerful enough memory card whit, let's say, 95MB/s writing speed. Still in beta phase but I'm sure that's they gonna find a stable solution for that !

LINk

Always been a Canon guy smile.gif Over 7 years working on the old 350 Rebel XT for photos and now a happy owner of 600D. Love the manual mode. I can finally set up the exposure the way i like - changing focus points, depth and one of most important...I can make a solid backgound by over-ligthening the video and still keep my and my guitar colors and contrast in a good condition. Autofocus and auto white balance can sometimes look nasty while watching the video. When it's very bright I can easily set up the vid to loose some details in the background and make it solid.

Like mentioned somewhere above - cams are still not enought descent comparing with dslr devices in the same price range

Ok, here is (H)igh (D)ynamic ®ange video test.

QUOTE
High-dynamic-range imaging (HDRI or HDR) is a set of methods used in imaging and photography to capture a greater dynamic range between the lightest and darkest areas of an image than current standard digital imaging methods or photographic methods.
Wiki

This technique has lately become very popular among video geeks, so I was curious how it will all appear in my example (720p)...

Thanks, Cosmin! smile.gif I'm sure you could. I'm no pro photographer at all, far from it, but I managed it.

This has inspired me to bring my camera when I go visit my girlfriend's place these next few days. Bringing my laptop as well so I can maybe even write some stuff smile.gif
