I just recently bought a bass, been working a bit on some bass techniques. I also play a little bit harmonica, I havent had much time practicing it though. I also want to try violin, but I know I wont have time for all this, so thats probably never gonna happen tongue.gif

I have a video of myself sweeping on my friend's bass - and i if i would HAVE TO i would be able to play bass in a band but no SLAPPING hehehe

When i was around 8-9 years old i started learning piano as my mom is a piano teacher but i quit very soon and later tried to play clarinet (my older brother is a professional clarinet player). I can still play some things on piano and i use a lot of midi keyboard controller to record my own stuff.

Im forced to do piano in music but I hate it. Right now im strictly guitar. Then maybe moving onto some bass because correct me if im wrong but once you learn guitar bass is pretty easy to pick up.

If you play bass with a pick its pretty much the same as guitar. But it looks/sounds/is more fun to play with your fingers smile.gif Then you can do slapping and stuff like that.

Played piano for 20 years. If I'm forced (and I sometimes am), I can play saxophone and a tiny bit of clarinet.

Oh, and keyboard (more different to piano than most people think smile.gif) And singing.

Heh, sweeping on a Bass - cool, I'd love to see that laugh.gif

Yes, knowing keyboards is a big bonus for arranging and recording stuff.

Agree!! My mother is a professional pianist and she HATES keyboards!! It has nothing to do with playing piano except for pressing the keys!

@Andrew: i just checked that video - it's recorded with a webcam so the quality sucks - but i'll record a new one when a friend of mine stops by my house so i can get his bass.

I remember a bass player from my band was all mad when i started to sweep on a bass - he's a kick ass bass player but he started to sweep when he saw me (guitarplayer) sweeping on bass! It was like: "When the hell did you practice that??" - i said: "I never did! I only play guitar!" laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

By the way Andrew: you have a bass guitar, right? Trust me - a warm-up on bass is the best warmup for guitar you can get! Just play a scale up and down for 5 minutes on bass guitar and when you pickup the guitar you'll feel like you are already playing for 4 hours!

Really? Great tip thanks, never thought of that smile.gif So If I add just a liitle bass practice to my schedule, my bass playing will benefit and I'll be all warmed up for the real thing - excellent!

You guys got me looking for a link to a video to post on this thread. A Japaneese woman and her band (drums, and bass only I think) with her playing a Nord Lead and a grand piano at the same time. Interesting in a fusion jazz kind of way. I'll post the link if I can find it later.

Personally, at the time when my guitar arrived, I had been working on learning to play keyboards. I have a couple MIDI keyboards and some software synths and a DAW. The problem I was having at the time was with the mchanics of playing, and the underlying theory. There aren't many websites like this for playing keyboards.

I'm finding that on guitar, I'm learning more here and I'm learning more of the underlying theory a bit easier. When I get more comfortable, I'll probably go back and see what I can do again.

If I ever get to the point where I feel I'm pretty good at guitar, I will try harmonica.

Willie Brown: "Where I come from, if a man ain't playing no harmonica, he ain't gettin' no pussy". Something like that, out of my head.
