Transhumanism - Would You Do It? |

Basically, the idea is that through technology - we could achieve our own self-determined evolution (of a sorts). I've always read bits and pieces of books and articles on it, but after Deus Ex: Human Revolution, it really actually got me thinking on it. My idea is that 'Human' is determined by experience and perspective, and our physical form really has nothing to do with it. I mean, if I could get a neural implant so I could accelerate my consciousness to four or five times that of my normal state, I would. I think it could better help me (us) understand our existence, while getting rid of some of the debilitating aspects of it. I also believe that if a limb could be produced that would perfectly imitate a human counterpart, or an organ for that matter - you could eliminate countless medical problems with that alone. What about you? Is being 'Human' determined by a natural state of what the body chooses to do, or is 'Human' a state of mind and perspective? |

Dog, cat, bear, wolf, those are all forms. I choose to believe kind of with the id, ego, and super-ego. Which the easiest way to place this is... Yep you guessed the the Elric brothers! Tho Ed has a mechanical arm it enhances some things in his life but doesn't change who he is, same with Al who is a full suit of armor where his soul was attached to it by a symbol. Which he can't really die unless the symbol is destroyed, so it would be the soul that commands the body which is in the form of a human to dictate what the body does. -------------------- Guitars:

I think some mechanical abilities could be improved through technology, in fact, many robots take care of jobs only humans could do a few decades ago. I even met someone who was working in a device to give sight to the partially blind by implanting a mechanical connector in the eye that would connect it to the brain.
Inside the human body there could be enhancements that make our strength and mathematical thinking a lot more powerful (computers, cars, etc.) But I think things like creativity are impossible to enhance because the source of, say, "David" by Michel Angelo cannot have been done by an artificial artifact, or say, "Purple haze" by Jimi H. because all these ideas came from a specific context, moment and individual's sensitivity. -------------------- Visit my:
