Maybe something like this :
AMP : http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/fender...584200000001000 BASS : http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/squier...519578000215000 It may be a bit over the budget but that bass is awesome. Fender rumble series of bass amps is the best "bang for the buck" I heard. They have a really sweet tone. Here is a slightly cheaper bass that is also an interesting choice : http://www.guitarcenter.com/Peavey-Millenn...369-i1146907.gc -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

I have to agree with Adrian on this one, I would choose a second hand bass & amp. That is a bit small budget for both of these pieces of gear, and your friend will end up with cheap gear that won't be satisfactory. I would stay away from Squier bass as well, they are poorly made.
Peavey is a nice recommendation for practice, it has a decent tone to it, thanks to active pickups. As far as the amps go, you can choose anything with 15" speaker + horn. Older Peavey or Fender bass amps were well made, so that might be a direction to seek. Older japanese Fender basses are for example very good, and the wood is settled on those, so that may be a solid plank of wood to base your platform on. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

Squire Classic Vibe series is quite a good value for the money actually (and surprisingly)
(stay away from affinity series of course!) Here you can hear them in action and comparison to the "real thing" : -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

Hi!
If it were me trying to set up for that money I'd probably go for a Yamaha RBX and and Roland Cube practice amp. I think the 30W Bass Cube and maybe and an RBX 374 should come in just about on budget (it's active too!) The reason I suggest these things is mainly because of tone. I find it much easier to practice when I am happy with my tone, much more motivating too. Tone is king and those little cube amps sound great, as do the RBX's. Alternatively your friend could buy my Blast-The-Paint-Off-The-Walls Stack, http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/warwick-...ss-amp/87320731 Just sayin' Frankie. -------------------- be excellent to each other

Here you can hear them in action and comparison to the "real thing" : I gotta give it to you man, they do sound good and they look incredible. but still, i would go with a second bass old precision or even better, a jazz bass , but this is just personal taste, i would even prefer an older tokai or greco p or jazz bass, you can find them very cheap on ebay (ok around $400-$700), but they are UNBELIEVABLE. -------------------- Check my Instructor Profile Rockers!
