Todd always talks about being good at all aspects of what we do, so I spent today learning Reaper and playing with making drum tracks. In so doing, I found a site where you can get drum sheet music for free if you want to build the actual drums from a popular song.

Here is what I did today. First 17 measures of Panama by Van Halen.

Any pointers are appreciated...

Nice job man! Building drum beats is so much fun to me! after I lay down a riff, I look forward for when I'm with the controller in front of me and the record button ready!

It sounds great! One thing that I like doing when I'm programming drums is to edit a bit the notes velocity to make it sounds more human. For example, if you edit a bit the intensity of the different hi hats (maybe lowering Hi hat 2, 4, 6, 8 and so...) it will sound more natural for me. The same with fills.

That is one thing I played with a little but was not sure how much to off set and where. Now all I have to do is figure out a drum beat for my song I am working on....

Do you know how to do a triplet beat in Reaper? I have not found that button yet in the drum area. Will keep looking.

I think that after I get some of this down it would be nice to have an area on here where we can upload drum patterns / files for others to use too...
