Hello GMC!
My name is Brandon Burch. I am 20 years old and live in the United States, the state of Arkansas, and I rock on with my three guitars. I have spent my time here at GMC and have been active since March 8, 2010. It has been wonderful and I'm still lovin' it. Do you know why I came to GMC? I have to admit it was actually because the instructor, Trond Vold, caught my attention with his Canon Rock lesson. I was amazed that it was free! I was just googling "Canon Rock" one day and clicked a link to Trond's GMC lesson.  I hung around for a while just watching lessons, not really thinking about the forum since I wasn't a member. It was soon I began to want to join GMC so I could learn these lessons of Trond Vold's. haha. At the time, I was still a little wet behind the ears with guitar and my current Guitar Idol, so to speak, was Funtwo and his Canon Rock. The original video I saw with millions of views is no longer on YouTube because that video was stolen from Funtwo and has now been removed. I have linked you to the one from Funtwo himself, uploaded a few years after the ever-so-famous stolen one. It's a long story. Canon Rock was my obsession back then. Why? It's the song that began my thirst for guitar. My uncle had shown me and my dad the original video on his iPhone. **Flashback** "Someone might say 'Aw, I could do that'," my uncle said as Funtwo played the simple intro to the Canon. "But watch here, he'll tear it up in a second." Indeed, Funtwo came to the part of rhythm, I later called the "rock part," as contrasted with the rest of the song played in solo. I was blown away. I begged my uncle to let me record that video with my camera. He told me I could find it on YouTube.com. But had never heard of YouTube before or how to work it. I actually had barely learned how to use the internet since we didn't have a connection at the house at this time. But I did find YouTube and download the video.  It was all I listened to for a long time.And so, I finally joined GMC and did find out there were other instructors besides Trond Vold.  (Sarcasm, you understand  ) Now we travel back through time to find out more when I started guitar. >>>>>>>W>>H>>O>>O>>S>>H>>>>>>>Canon Rock was my Homework Anthem, but I can't say I got the homework finished any faster. I thought, Just think of the people I could impress if I could play that song.  Well, you can check out my covers for them on my YouTube channel (link below in signature), but none of them are as I would like them to be yet. It was one day after Wednesday night church that I told my parents I think I would start learning some chords. This was October 29, 2008. I used an Acoustic Getting Started DVD and learned the chords Em, A, and D on my little brother's classical guitar. There were some chords such as the D and G I thought I would never learn. I remember this whenever I have a hard fingering. Just takes practice. So yeah, I grew in my knowledge of guitar, at first only focusing on Canon Rock, finding GMC, and getting to know the people in the forum until today. My first introduction thread is still here. I have three guitars, as stated above: Ibanez GIO IJX 121, Ibanez RG 350 DX, and Jackson SLSMG. I use POD Farm almost strictly. I plan to get a good, small guitar amp called a Mustang I, in which I will still be able to record direct USB. I love mostly metal and rock styles of playing. I do listen to other styles, but they aren't my focus as much as metal and rock. I hope to one day be a great guitar player of my dreams and play what I hear in my head. I want to thank everybody at GMC for the encouragement and constructive criticism as it has helped me grow as a guitarist and composer. The advice and criticism has been the most helpful. Without the forum, I don't know how I would be where I am - I wouldn't be. There are countless details I could tell, but I can compress them in a video I made for this thread and in commemoration of my 3rd anniversary of guitar playing. hey man i love your video, it's incredible how you keep track of everything, or were those videos online the whole time?
i see that you have improved a lot, i hope you stick around even if you are a good player now, there is a ton of things to learn, and i as an instructor can tell you that, i'm currently studying (and stealing) licks from the great stephane, it feels great to keep learning and evolving. --------------------  Check my Instructor Profile Rockers! Thanks guys! I'm definitely sticking around. I mean, there is so much I don't know.
I'm still practicing lessons. Most of these videos were not online but in my dungeon of old files on my external hard drive. I took TONS and TONS of videos through my beginning months. I don't want to delete ANY of them. And I posted the best ones. hehe. Shoot, I used to pretend I was playing (I look back to see I was no where near the correct frets) and play nothing but dissonance, but I thought I was rocking out! Just check out my 1 Minute of Torture to the Ears video, and you'll see what I mean. Glad you guys enjoyed! I just practice guitar like crazy. My parents hardly ever see me. LOL. I'm exaggerating, but I do play my guitar for hours at a time almost every day.Brandon |
