I discovered a song from one of my favorite country players - Brad Paisley and this discovery made me start this thread...What's the saddest song you ever heard?

Ever seen the movie for this song? It's really touching. The singer had to keep re-recording in the studio because he kept crying.

Hard to choose...there are some songs of the german superbands Die Aerzte and Die Toten Hosen, but since you guys won't understand the lyrics I'll go with three english songs:

Well the saddest song for me is "The Dark Island" its an old traditional irish (I think) song. My grandfather use to sing it to me when I was kid and it was one of his favourite songs. It was played at his funeral on the bagpipes and since then I cannot listen to the song without crying... thus why I'm not posting a link wink.gif

But here are a couple others

One of the greatest songs ever and even though Leonard Cohen wrote it for me it will always be Buckley's song

Trent may have wrote it but Johnny OWNS it... Sad song but with Johnny showing his years and knowing June and Johnny passed shortly after makes it even sadder.

I know Dark Island - but I have listened to it on Mike Oldfield's 'The voyager' record. It's among my favorites! Can you play the bagpipes?

Right Gabriel, in that context it is one of the saddest songs ever. I heard it was recorded shortly before his death...

There is a song from a well known composer from Guatemala called Ricardo Arjona (Gabriel don't laught!) that made a song of a little girl that has been kidnapped, at the the end of the song says that the little girl recognizes one of her kidnappers (?), it was someone from the family and so the plans must be changed. The sad thing is that it was a real history.
It is in spanish:

OK AS I AM A SUPER COOL GUY wink.gif I MADE A QUICK ATTEMP OF TRASLATING THIS SONG INTO ENGLISH - OF COURSE IN SPANISH HAS MORE POWER- BUT WELL JUST TO SHOW THE IDEA OF THE SONG

the maid woke her up at 6
the little girl closes her eyes to avoid the light
said her prayiers and draws a holy x in her chest to be ok with god
from whom is the car that is waiting two blocks away?

With her textbooks, she is going to the school with her driver
Mommy says goodbye from the door
the little girl has 9 years old
how was she going to know that someone were following her since 4 months ago?
and the car that was waiting outside starts its engine.

a shoot in the driver's head, the car is out of control
a tree stops it and they had her
her head has crash into the windshield now she is hurt
the neighbours lockt theirselves in their houses, no one has seen anything
the little girl is a 1 with zeros from now on.

the little girl now can´t see the light
in hell there are no windows
her luck is connected with money from other country
the little girl won't go to her english class this afternoon.

The little girl is hidden in the trunk of a Chrysler
a shoe is on her back, a scarf in her mouth
the little girl is totally freak out and doesn't know why
the little girl doesn't know that sometimes god also make mistakes

her world has changed and now is a small room
her sun is the light that comes from the lower part of a door
the little girl can´t realise the difference between a day and a month
the little girl can´t realise if she is asleep or awake
the little girl has now 3 months asking "why"

6 kg thinner
Daddy almost crazy, mommy again searching in the hospitals.

the deal is closed with a manipulated voice
the same that has been offering corporal souvenirs
and the scare laughts of everyone again

the day has come, the money is under a bridge
the little girl fynally gets out from the room.
everything is going ok
Suddenly, the chief enters the room without covering his head
the little girl recognizes a family member
The plans after the "inccident" must be changed.
