I did my PhD years ago on Georges Bataille and because of him I came across quite a few blood filled stories/legends. At the time I needed written permission as at the time some of Bataille's works, and those related to it, were banned.
One high light in Bataille's ouvre (or maybe it's a low light) is Bataille's biography of Gilles de Rais, who was the real life model for the Bluebeard legends and was also Joan of Arc's lieutenant/2nd in command. De Rais is supposed to have killed hundreds of children in satanic type rituals as well as impailing and imolating hundreds of other victims on his castle walls. Some of this was later picked up by the film maker Pasolini who used it to inform his banned film Salo. Bataille also wrote several, quite gory, stories (Blue of Noon, Story of the Eye, etc): Story of the Eye for instance recounts the true story where a bullfighter is gored through his eye by a bull. -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer. Once was thought that Count Dracula story was partly based on her image and story. I was in Erzsébet aqua park in hungary BTW in August, it is named by her.

He was defo a nutter  and not the sort of guy you'd want to meet on a dark night - or indeed any night.Long time since I read Bataille's account of de Rais but I think de Rais used to have a thing about disembowling his victims whilst they were conscious and then playing with and wearing their entrails. Those two and Bathory would have made a very scary trinity  .They'd all have fallen out with each other quickly as each one would want to be the baddest though  .A bit OT - but AFAIK Spain has the only public statue of Lucifer in the world in a public park (it's in Madrid). I read quite a bit about this guy in various history books and his brutaility was pretty much at the top of list. I read in one book that he would build a large wood castle every couple years and then he would gather up / invite all the derelicts and deadbeats in for a huge feast. Once the feast was underway he would have the building torched.
