I am a huge fan of folk. Mostly in the vein of

Robbie Basho

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYaGChm8RWw

and

Arborea

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oquzJrlyDko...feature=related

Does anyone else on GMC listen to this kind of music?

Ooooo, where to start?? Apart from Richard Thompson (as mentioned) if you want guitar based stuff check out the following:-

Also, do a search for Natalie Merchant, Sharon Shannon, Eliza Carthy, Jim Moray and also a band called the Bad Shepherds (featuring Adrian Edmondson!)!!

Ye I love folk too. Bert Jansch is a good call also Nick Drake is a good one.
Welsh folk singers worth checking are Meic Stevens who's known too be a bit wild and Tecwyn Ifan, his song Gwaed ar yr eira gwyn (Blood on the white snow) is a classic. If you can stand not understanding the words wink.gif
Instrumental folk Leo Kottke and John Fahey.

Actually yes smile.gif I've liked CLANNAD for a while now for example. Some great recordings sung in traditional Gaelic!

Ye Cerys has a great voice sings a lot of of old gospel welsh songs, songs we used to sing all over the pub after playing a rugby game rolleyes.gif those were the days.
But seriously check out Tecwyn Ifan. I love that guy's songs especially his solo acoustic stuff. I'm too patriotic for my own good. wink.gif Anyboby want a translation I'd be more than happy to oblige wink.gif

I just started working with Open C Tuning today. I already have one pretty damn good song done, and I just tuned my Mandolin down to Open C and it sounds good. I might write with that as well. I am getting together with a buddy tomorrow who is going to school to be a recording engineer, so I might be posting a couple songs. Definitely let me know what your guys think if I post them.
