Dec 29 2011, 05:07 PM	Learning Apprentice Player Posts: 977 Joined: 1-September 11 From: Chino Hills, California	I had to get stitches last night on the ring finger of my fretting hand because I sliced it to the bone last night at work. So, I got myself a drumpad and some drumsticks. I cannot play guitar for a week, and my friend across the street has a nice drumset he never really uses anymore. I have decided I will spend this week playing drums and learning some basics. I figure that it will help me not only improve my timing, but since I have never heard percussion in my head when writing music, I think I will finally have the ability to do so. So what are we looking at for recovery time before you can fret the guitar again? A couple weeks? I think its a great idea to try and learn some drum rudiments durring this time , I would go for learning Paradiddles, I think they are great for working on accents and timing that easily transfers over to guitars alternate picking technique, Kind of like cross training if you will. Point is, it could be worse...it could always be worse haha.... I sliced the tip of my index finger off before, but it didn't go down to the bone, so after a few weeks it was already healed. My first reaction was fear that I had nerve damage.
