I had a question about what scales I could learn and use in solos to make them sound more "evil" i know it's kind of a generic question but i mean examples of bands like Dissection and things liek that.

Hey it's a good question smile.gif

I would explore the following scales:

Diminished Scale
Whole Tone Scale (very disorientating, which I like to use for evil sounds)
Melodic Minor Scale
Phrygian Dominant (also known as Phyrgian Major)

The Melodic Minor is quite difficult to put into place sometimes but the major7th can sound very weird and spooky over a minor chord. For example, take an Em chord.. then play a Major 7th over it.. weird or what ??

In my opinion, a crucial element of making something sound evil is to make something sound confusing, unexpected because this has the effect of creating chaos and fear. Enjoy creating evil ! cool.gif

Also do the George Lynch trick and add in the b5 to your pentatonics and land on it a lot

Just ignore them when they say they don't know theory or could show a major scale, because they suddenly talk about the b5 and major 3rd

This one is pretty odd - sometimes I use it for short runs when I am trying to make techy rhythms.
Probably makes things sound more disjointed than evil.
I have absolutely no idea what it is though - just sort of stumbled across it...

Very cool examples, this last one is also neat. It's diminished7th arpeggio.

It is hard, its the giant stretch smile.gif it is like a natural minor with a sharpened 7. if it is any help, this is the way I try to think about the harmonic minor modes, like the modes of the major scale but with small alterations - rather than trying to remember a bunch of new patterns...

Research the Byzantine scale. It is pretty evil.

Lynch has such a muddy tone in this video. He's a really humble guy isn't he? Always loved his guitarwork!
