My name is Gabriel Rodriguez, age 30, in Portland Oregon. I have been playing since age 6, but didn't have much formal training, direction or drive until recently.... so I have many "strengths" and "natural ability", but PLENTY of bad habits and gaps in the knowledge I should possess.

I love playing many styles, mainly funk, jazz-funk, country, and many many more. I'm in several project currently, in Portland, including....

EMULATOR a 4-piece NES coverband!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtEByw1NwbY I feel very lucky to play alongside those musicians.

Planet Jackers is my jazz-funk instrumental project http://www.facebook.com/pages/Planet-Jacke...54361170?ref=ts (vid links on facebook page).

I'm also in the startup phase of a new honky-tonk/country band as well.

The reason I found/signed onto GMC, is a Stephane vid (https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Country-Licks-Lesson/) I found on youtube. Since then, I've hit a few difficult vids pretty hard, such as Muris' "Country Licks Advanced", Stephane's "Scofield Style", and several others. Ivan is also one of my favorite instructors thus far, but every single instructor really is doing a great job here.

I haven't been very active in the forum, and JUST found out about the REC program. I'm looking forward to submitting a few vids soon.

GEAR: I currently play a 97' Parker Nitefly, in place of a 97 American Standard Strat. Strat was good, but I don't miss it a bit compared to my Parker!! Although, I do really love the sound of a 335. Currently playing a Fender Hotrod Deluxe 1 12'' tube amp, but would like to upgrade to a Mesa with good cleans, such as an older Mark III (nearly and of the Mark series), or even the newer 5:50. There aren't many Mesa's I don't like, but I do want a combo that has good cleans, as opposed to a triple rectifier head, etc. I play a Home Brewed Electronics "Power Screamer" for gain. I love it. I have a Seymor Duncan "Pickup Boost" pedal, that is ALWAYS on!! Great little clean boost, but I like it too much to ever turn it off. Cheap, and I love it. Crybaby wah (gonna look into other wahs soon), and I recently eliminated the original Q-tron I had. Sounds too "Jerry" for me, and it gain boosts when turned on (all the old ones do) which is annoying live. I have a boss octave pedal (OC-2), and and Ernie Ball volume pedal (best add on ever, for live players). A pretty slim lineup of effects, but I would like to eventually add more. But, I tend to lean towards "less-is-more", regarding effects.

Influences: Tons. Early on (high school) it was Led Zeppelin, Phish, Hendrix, Metallica, Megadeth, TOOL, Rage Against the Machine, and many more.....

2 albums that changed my life!! Greyboy Allstars: West Coast Boogaloo, and Soulive: Turn it Out

Since then - Jerry Reed, Albert Lee, George Benson, GRANT GREEN, MELVIN SPARKS, Jeff Beck, John Scofield, Eric Krasno, Greyboy Allstars, Frank Zappa, Joe Pass, and many, many more.

Well....that's a bit about me, and how I got here. I plan on being a long-term part of this community.

Thanks all!! I'm REALLY glad I found GMC. I really can't afford $40 per hour with my local guitar hero, so I really love having access to this site and all of the vids.

I look forward to checking out a video chat, hopefully soon.

Thanks again all!! You all really make this site what it is, so a big thanks to everyone involved. Including your customer service, whom without their prompt response with my first payment issue (paypal now, so NO PROBLEMS!!) I would have never joined. They set me up with a "trial account" so I could log in and find out that this site is TOTALLY worth it!! Anyway, I'm picky so if they hadn't responded so well, I would have kept on and found another site. Speaking of which, all the "other" sites I found do not compare to GMC. I look forward to seeing this site and community grow.
