Avid/M-Audio has released a new USB audio interface and it looks pretty nice (96khz recording, programable buttons, built in DSP, works with any DAW and comes with Pro Tools, etc). It's USB 2.0 and has some great features. I'm not in the market for an interface, but I saw this and thought I'd share as somebody is always looking for a good interface smile.gif Looks like about $250 U.S. for the starter version. Here is a link to the web site and a quick video.

I'm extremely wary of their products. While sometimes excellent the craftsmanship is quite often poor, and I find the price tags dont justify that. That being said, this still looks pretty cool.

I hear ya. I was seriously "Anti Avid" for quite some time. Now that they own M-Audio and let other DAWS work with their software I'm a little less of a hater.

A very valid point. They tend to overcharge. This product is the first one I've seen that looks fairly priced. It's getting good reviews I hope somebody gets one and can talk about it in the forums.

Hehe, I am hater coz of their stupid iLok system to verify my Pro Tools. I can't use my other USB port properly in my macbook coz I have the old iLok which costed like 50 bucks (god damn its pretty big and I don't want to spend another 50 bucks for new one, how much should I spend before I can use it?)! I bought 2 pro tools and can't even use it when I want to use my Axe FX. I don't want to use my Mbox simply coz I have to connect so many wires for the set up. I just wish they had a better verification system such as using online as an option since I am always online. Anyway, their products are very expensive. They seem to have been stuck in their 70s glory days, expensive stuff. Its 2012 damn it, everythings getting cheaper with more functionalities. biggrin.gif Enough said.

Hehe, I"m a Hater too smile.gif I'm not judging, I"m in the same camp. I HATE the ilok system. It's just one reason I don't use Pro Tools.

These new interfaces work with REAPER or any daw, so I"m impressed to finally see Avid getting over themselves and opening up the platform.

But yeah, they have been pretty snooty for quite some time which is why I'm not a 'Pro Tools" guy smile.gif Hopefully now that they own M-Audio, they will continue to democratize a bit.

To be honest for that much money, much nicer interface can be found, but it looks cool, no doubt smile.gif

I have to agree smile.gif I was honestly just hoping somebody had tried it so they could share. So far, no luck.

I'm thinking of getting some recording equipment, but I'm a complete noob when it comes to this tongue.gif This thing looks quite interesting. Any tips for a beginner? Need to upgrade from just my camera...

Try before you buy! smile.gif Go to a music store and make them run a demo of the hardware/software for you so you can see what's involved and get a vibe for it. Try as many interfaces as you can. For about $100 U.S. you can get a good starter and the sky is the limit from there.

If you just want to record, I think many guitar processors come with usb ability so you can simply hook them up to your computer to record. I don't think we really need another interface to record unless we want mic inputs like vocals or acoustic guitar/drums.
