Your Most Embarasing Moment On Stage

Tell us a little story about it and I shall start with mine I was at my first gig with ARIA last month, opening for Arch Enemy and at some point during a song, I got the mic up in the air and started to raise my fist so that the crowd could follow me. Little did I know, that my mic cable went out and about so I stepped away from that spot and got ready to sing the chorus with my foot set on the monitor and anger on my face guess what...NO SOUND CAME from the monitor I picked it up and plugged it in faster than you can say 'bummer' and while singing, the technician came and wrapped tape duct all over the cable and mic body so that thing won't happen again... I got away with it, but it felt INCREDIBLY crappy I was ashamed deep inside, but I learned my lesson: NEVER raise the mic without making a coil with the cable so that it won't ever go out of it's socket! Feb 9 2012, 02:05 AM	Learning Tone Seeker Posts: 627 Joined: 7-August 11 From: Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina	I remember being so nervous on my first gig! 10 minutes before we were about to play I realized I didn't have the distortion pedal with me, so I borrowed one from a friend from the previous band. It was dark and I couldn't see which jack was input and which was output so I took a guess. Turns up that I got it the wrong way, because the input was on the opposite side than it was the case with my distortion. Of course, my guitar wasn't producing any sound and I thought it was bad cable. So we replaced the cable. Again, no sound. We tried another cable. By then I was bathing in my own sweat because people were waiting for us to start playing for 15 minutes! When we finally made it, I was so relieved but also felt so dumb It was a funny moment, I even have it recorded! On the second gig, a similar thing happened. My strings were pretty old so I had to tune my guitar after each song. I used the built-in amp tuner, which of course turns the sound off until you press the footswitch to return it to playing mode. And - you guessed it, I forgot to do that And ironically the next song was the hardest song in our setlist and the one we were most looking forward to play! (August Burns Red - "Indonesia") So we started playing and everything could be heard except for my guitar. Went to the Bar whilst the other 3 Bands played and got backstage ready to go on. Walked on stage, put my Guitar on, turned the Amp on and NOTHING!! NO SOUND!! Checked my Pedals, checked the Amps Volume, checked all the settings, made sure my Pedal Board Power Supply was on and working, still no sound!! Then I found my Guitar cable just laying on the floor and I hadn't plugged it into my Jack Socket!!! Good job I noticed as I was about to start smashing the guitar up in frustration!! I head butted a bass headstock and caused my head to bleed but that wasn't embarrassing, it was cool ! No sound. I look back to the sound desk and glare, pointing at my guitar and shrugging and try again, nothing. Then some one in the front row points out I haven't plugged in. 2) You know how it is, you're playing, in the moment, eye shut, I then go to start singing the next verse, open my eyes and I'm a foot or two to the left of my mike stand singing into nothing. There was a house covers band that played every weekend and I used to play as a guest as well as many other musicians. The band had 3 guitarists so with me we were 4 guitar on stage... One day I get on stage and I don't know exactly when but my guitar cable disconnected... as I didn't here myself.. I was confused with any of the other guitars.. Only to find out I had stepped on my cable and unplugged my guitar...the 2 sec of silence was longer than expected... Oh the funny part, me tripping over the cables trying to get them reconnected... What a night... ------ The other is the band leader changed keys on a song just before a set...song came up, I did not change so went on playing whole song in different key...but for some odd reason the crowd said it was one of the best concerts they had been too... Our other guitarist had the intro to an AC/DC song, I was to join when the second guitar part kicked in. He played a few notes & promptly stepped on his cable as he was walking away from the amp. Naturally he pulled it out & I was left to butcher his part...a part that I had never practiced before! He plugged back in & joined in. It was about the longest 5-10 seconds of my short stage career. WE ALL HAVE CABLE PROBLEMS! +1 Brandon I ALWAYS but ALWAYS loop the guitar cable between the axe and the strap and I also loop it around a little niche in the pedalboard so that I won't unplug it when I run around on a big stage I was on the edge with that at least 3-4 times! I could still sing, but my voice was like "grrrrrwooooll" for soft songs LOL. Hate singing with a raspy voice. But I look forward to stepping on my cable during a solo. That should be awesome!
