Instead of just viewing it as a day of rest, it's a good day to work on things for yourself Ok, I've got 2 GMC lessons that I still need to practice before I can record them... There's a level 8 GMC lesson that I've been learning for a while and I haven't practiced for a few days.. Within that, I'm working on picking speed/stamina and sweeping. High energy activities !! Hmm, the 'x' symbol means 'dead notes', where you mute the string and pick it. I personally don't recall anywhere in the riffs to Wake up Dead where that happens. A lot of tablature put these 'x' symbols when they don't know what note is really being played. If you direct me to the tablature you're using I can have a look at it and make sure it's correct if you like ? We can't upload tab here of course, but gimme a link to the site etc.. I dont know if I put it on here will be it be leagl or what,not sure. So dont know how to pass it on to you Oh right, ok.. I think I know the book you mean. I saw it in a music shop once. I've seen quite a few tab books that are wrong and I mean the real, official type of tab books. I'll see if I can find a tab somewhere of the song and compare with what I know and if it's correct I'll direct you to it and you can see if there's any difference with the book I can't find a single version which is correct for the opening riffs.. I can't write the tab out but basically what's happening is you got to start every riff with an F# power chord to an E power chord, back to the F# and then each chord after that is different. (in the order they appear it is A, C, D, F). The F#, E, F# power chord sequence is the key though. Try keeping your hand in a classical position which will allow you to move between F# and E much quicker. From the F# position, all you've got to do is take your index finger of the 2nd fret (low E string) and let it drop onto the 2nd fret of the A & D strings and barre those 2 notes which gives you the E power chord. As you drop your index finger into the E position, you simultaneously remove your 3rd and 4th fingers (or whatever fingers you use for the 5th and octave) from the 4th fret of A & D string just leaving you with the E shape. Remember to play all 3 lowest string to get the full tonality of E. That's the most efficient way of playing an E power chord in a metal chord progression like this.. I see so many people using 2 fingers to play it but it wastes time. An even easier way of doing it (which Mustaine might be doing here) is just playing the open E and the 5th on the 2nd fret, A string. That allows an even quicker chord change and is easier to play. I do this a lot. It's quite tricky to move chords shapes that fast but that's how it's played. All this extra nonsense that people have written out is just not true. I hope this helps. P.S. I'm not sure if the original Peace Sells version is in standard tuning or not, but treat the chord names and positions I've given as being on a guitar with standard tuning. For the Racer X one I maybe stole too much from Gilbert! There's some Technical Difficulties stuff, some stuff from his live jams, and some of my own stuff. I still can't play it 100% speed, but I should be able until the deadline. I planned some trademark Page licks for the Led Zeppelin collab but I found that they sound great on 100 bpm but not so good on the backing track (I find 120 bpm kinda too fast for the triplet pentatonic runs but hey)... however I composed the solo, now there are two missions - find a good rocking tone and of course, become able to play this in full speed because it's kinda demanding...
