Hey Cosmin

I can just about do it at 60bpm now, although I sometimes still struggle a bit changing from the turnaround to the G9 and F#9 at the end - I find them quite difficult chords to play quickly and cleanly.

I estimate that getting to 90 bpm will take me about 100 years - that fast bit is..........................well, fast smile.gif

Is there something else I can be doing while I'm learning this ? I might just go bat crazy if this is all I have to practise for a long time ohmy.gif

Hey mate, well, in the mean time, I was thinking that this one is an awesome starting point for your pentatonic knowledge, which is essential in blues playing -> Ivan's Pentatonic Workshop Part 1

This is the first part from a very good series by Ivan, take a look smile.gif these are the building blocks with which you can start honing your pentatonic chops, so I suggest you tackle these in the mean time. They'll complement the solo you are working on wink.gif

Hi Cosmin

I actually know my major and minor pentatonics pretty well. Don't worry I'll find something else to keep me occupied.

How well can you improvise using the pentatonic scale or the major scale?

I'm OK improvising using pentatonics, but I don't have a load of licks to fall back on and I'm not very fast.

I only know the major scale in the first position.

Can you sing the major scale over a chord for instance, or the pentatonic scale?

This is a good exercise smile.gif try this:

- sing the C major scale over a C major chord than over a CM7 chord and so on with the following: Cmaj6/9 CM7/9, Cmajadd9

Now, I also wanted to ask if you are ok with chord theory? All these are ear training exercises which are going to help a lot! If you understand the structure of these chords, you can emphasize the notes which you find in the chord structure and in the C major scale, by holding them a while longer than the others tongue.gif sounds challenging?

Hi Cosmin

Still practising ! I'm really struggling with the blues soloing. I can do it at 81bpm but I'm finding it very hard to move up to 84 - the end part is just too quick for me smile.gif

Any tips ?

Hey there mate smile.gif well, those 3 BPM's you are aiming for should be given more time probably - I say aim for increasing 1 BPM right after you can play at 81 BPM without feeling absolutely NO TENSION or difficulty. 1 BPM will not be perceived as a major change for the brain wink.gif thus you will not feel it. Can you play fully relaxed at 81 BPM?

I wouldn't say I'm 'fully relaxed' at 81 bpm smile.gif I think there must be something wrong with me........the end bit before the turnaround seems too fast for my limited skills.

I'll keep working on it sad.gif

With a little patience you will get there, but first of all, relaxation is the key wink.gif even if it means slowing things down a bit wink.gif

Lemme take a look man! biggrin.gif Don't worry, even if you will get a small grade, it will help you evolve wink.gif no one here grades and doesn;t give something in return smile.gif If I were young again, I would've happily taken bad grades, just to find out what I can improve and HOW tongue.gif So, how r ya man? How's life treating ya?

Check out the REC zone wink.gif and let's see the exact spots where you have to fix stuff in the take smile.gif

Hey Cosmin

Some good advice on my take. I've nearly got an 8 which is fine by me ! I've been doing that exercise for a while now. I'll keep on it but can you please give me another to get my teeth into to stop me going crazy !

Hey mate, sure thing - let me know what you'd prefer: lead or rhythm? Depending on your choice, I shall look something up so that it may help you improve a step more wink.gif we should go in these directions, so that you may cover as much ground as possible smile.gif

Hey Andy! I would like to suggest some work on the bending and vibrato in lead, working a bit with this lesson which is easy and doable but focuses on the task at hand wink.gif

what say you? If you don't like it we can try another one smile.gif
