OK, here's the list..

- GooGoo Dolls: Black Balloon
- GooGoo Dolls: Slide
- Foo Fighters: Cold Day In The Sun
- Incobus: Drive
- The Verve: The Drugs Don't Work
- Staind: Outside
- Foo Fighters: Stranger Things Have Happenend
- A Perfect Circle: 3 Lybras
- Fleetwood Mac: Landslide
- Coldplay - The Scientist

What do you think - manageable?

Hey Marc - definitely a lot of my favorite bands and music here biggrin.gif I already know how to sing and play two of the songs - Drive and 3 Libras, but we will not begin with any of them because they are difficult, 3 Libras at least is a killer!

Which one do you find easiest or you already had an attempt at?

Alright! Hmmm - can you make some recordings of these passages? I mean video recordings with the vocals as well, or you mean you can play them, as in just the guitar? smile.gif

Awesome!

In the meantime, here's a fresh recording of the full solo for your latest collab for discussing:

https://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/unmaskingthedrama-gmc-collab

Questions
1st: how do you like the other parts, is there anything I should improve/play differently (tell me - I won't be mad at you biggrin.gif)?
2nd: That arpeggio at 1:20 .. something is wrong, but I don't know what...
3rd: When starting to improvise I always tend to play without knowing what key the backing is in or what scales I can use.. so 90% of that 'solo' is just the result of fiddling around - that's fun but takes lot of time. I'd like to play more confident when improvising any tips here?

Thanks smile.gif

Hey mate!

Mainly, your phrases are a little bit out of direction sometimes - and that has to do with your next questions smile.gif

- that arpeggio sounds a bit off due to the fact that it is a bit out of context, as it would've been more appropriate - in my opinion to play 16th notes there, rather than triplets. It's a matter of choice tho - it's not like I hold the supreme truth in music laugh.gif
- playing what you hear in your head is very good, but that should be a direction and your knowledge of music should be the chisel that makes the diamond shine smile.gif Theory would help out, in giving you hints of what notes you can use where
- for me, the process of creation is about the same - I imagine something, I make it sound really catchy and with flow and then I analyze it to see if I can use my theoretical knowledge to make it even more interesting.

i think this is the part that you aren't focusing on - am I right?

Absolutely!

Because I like this backing very much I'd like to develop more ideas over it and discuss them with you here.
I'll try to bring that arpeggio into a more sweep-like playing to 16th@120bpm.

Ha - and I just saw you did an edit on your last post with a vid! Will watch that now!

Thank you so much! The last 30 minutes I internalized the very first part (before the drums come in) and tried to play the melody over the original tune - that worked great so far. As I can't sing atm (everyone's sleeping biggrin.gif ) I'll give it another try tomorrow.. for the next part. As for the tone I still need to find one that fits. To get that kinda violin-feel I think I have to use lots of slides and legato (and volume pedal biggrin.gif ). So learning that tune is definately a great way to boost my soloing skills..

BTW I played the ending of that first part with slides only - sounds a lot better imho smile.gif

Happy to be able to work and discuss this with you smile.gif

Great man - let's begin with that section smile.gif try it and upload it here once you find an appropriate phrasing for it, ok?

Hehe - that violin piece is amazing and I think it will definitely be a great experience for you - it is the exact same thing that I am doing when I have to play the guitar at Mozart Rocks and thus adapt classical pieces on the guitar. I am really looking forward to this!

It is indeed a very good idea to use slides and legato - the idea here is to try and emulate the violin as well as possible! Let's see a first approach and we'll take it from there biggrin.gif And don't forget to sing first, deal?

Good morning smile.gif

Today I wanted to play over that collab backing-track again and develop some new ideas. You wrote that theory will help to find a/my direction. Could you explain a little more so I can include that directly into my playing? Thanks smile.gif
